Palomar Card Club license revoked

Local unemployment stays at 4.7 percent

Not surprised to see the big increase in food service and drinking establishments, Don. Seems the goal here in Sandy Eggo these days is to have a craft beer tavern on every block. Of course, the problem with that is when you cut the pie into too many pieces, nobody gets enough to survive. Only time will tell.

East Miramar Marines escort bikers out and confiscate their bikes

This whole situation between the military and bike riders reeks of jackboot gestapo tactics. The military has no interest in clearly defining their borders because then they would lose the opportunity to be able to ride out and strong arm some civilians while confiscating their bikes. It is completely ludicrous that the military would be permitted to run around with weapons at the ready when they can't even say exactly where their borders are. The fact is, the military has no reason to be holding on to such large tracts of land when all they use it for is to play got'cha with cyclists. I can understand the shooting range needing some space but what is all that other property for? They don't train there; they never use it for anything. A large part of it ought to be returned to the county. As for any land the public can no longer use because the military cannot be sure whether it holds unexploded shells or ammo, they should be required to compensate the county for the loss and/or provide other land as compensation. The idea of the military being provided or taking whatever land they want whether or not they need it should no longer be tolerated. Just as what was done with the Navy's NTC property in San Diego, where they realized they did not need that much land anymore and so it was converted to civilian housing, markets, and recreation. I'm not advocating the land near Mission Gorge or Miramar be used for more housing, but if it is no longer needed by the military, as it appears it is not, then the land should be used for recreational purposes, rather than just sitting there like some hostile (un)occupied territory.

Raiders could play in Vegas, but not forever

I'm surprised Adelson hasn't used some of his billions to build a mega-stadium in Vegas. It would have to be enclosed and air conditioned most of the year, but if they can build an indoor ski slope in the desert of Dubai, I don't see why Vegas can't have an NFL style stadium. Fans would come from all over the country to see the games, and I'm sure the players wouldn't mind. Everyone loves having an excuse to go to Vegas. You should suggest it to him, Don.

Encinitas ocean-view battle

Interesting case, but I don't see how anyone can believe when they buy a house, they also buy the view. They may like the view, but that's not what they are paying for. If they want to see what they bought they need to look down, not out. They own the house and the land it sits on, but what they see when they look out their door or window belongs to other people who bought that land and/or house. Local ordinance states what the height limit is, and they have a right to build up to that limit. If anyone wanted an unobstructed view of the ocean for the rest of their days, they should have bought the house on the edge of the cliff. Of course, that presents other problems here in southern Cal.
