$800K signs mounted at City College

That must really be excellent quality steel that goes into those frames. And the aluminum has got to be top of the line. You through in that acrylic and the LED's with the wiring and hell, its easy to see how one of these signs would cost more than a brand new Lexus. Sure, the Lexus has the air conditioning, and that whole electrical system and then there's things like the drive train, the transmission, engine, suspension system, ABS brakes, the leather interior, the sound system, interior lighting, and lets not forget that neat little navigation screen with the gps. Oh, yea, you can see how those signs and the Lexus are practically the same thing. Of course, the signs do cost a tad more than the Lexus, buy hey, LED's last a long time. So, the only thing the college needs to do now is put up one more sign; a great big one...that says SUCKERS.

Margie's plight

More like what it's like to be a person living in San Diego. I've spoke to several people recently who say they are one rent increase away from homelessness. The landlords don't seem to care. Everyone just shrugs their shoulders, wondering what can be done. There are 46,000 families on the waiting list for Section 8 assistance. The wait time is said to be 8 - 10 years. There appears to be quite a few who are about to slip into Margie's shoes. America's Finest City, indeed.

Charity starts at home

I couldn't agree more with you on this one, Alex. I think these two may have been a tad over served at the salary bar, but all things considered, their pensions seem slim. Some people just have a lot of resentment about folks who get good pensions-- especially those employed in the public sector, where they still have unions and good pay with benefits,and a decent pension package. I have no sympathy for those who decided they didn't want a union, or worse, had one and voted it out. Now they're whining about those "overly generous" public employee pensions. They waved good-bye to the union rep and then watched as the executives salaries went from 20 times theirs to 400 times theirs, and their raises slowed to a crawl while their pensions went into the stock market and pretty much evaporated. Now they point and wail about those who were smart enough to hang on to their union contract and think that if they can't get themselves up, maybe they can at least bring some others down. And the big dogs go laughing all the way to the bank.

Critic trades in cell phone for a padded cell

I like your baseball bat idea, Scott. The problem however, would be getting one into the theater. I was thinking that maybe a paintball gun might be easier to conceal, but with my luck I'd get the sucker right in the eye and them not wearing goggles could be problematic. I want to bop them, not blind them. Then I considered a taser. The problem with that is you have to get close though and who wants to be climbing over seats, plus there would be the screaming. So now I'm leaning toward the good old fashioned pea shooter. Remember them? Nothing but a straw and some hard peas. Silent, but not deadly. And the best part is all you do is bring the peas; the theater supplies the straws! I just might give that a shot.
