What do you do?
I agree. In some circles it would be rude to ask, but most people have no problem asking how much you make, what your title is, where you live, and if your home is new. Really. I was asked at a cocktail party where I lived, and when I said Escondido I could see the woman's eyes dull and her lips start to smirk. Then she asked if I own or rent, and if my house is new. The nerve! I asked her why, did she want to come over?— August 30, 2011 10:51 a.m.
Live Interview with the Cardiff Kook
I read it, I read it too!! I've found that many more read than post. Sometimes I refrain from posting because I feel I have little to say. This was fun. I've never seen the kook in person but I really enjoy the fact that it's a way for the community to communicate with current events. Great article, and rest assured, it's been read by more than two :)— August 25, 2011 9:36 a.m.
Dirty Laundry: Sexual Assault Exposed
"It's not about women and children having to learn to beat men off them, it's about all the rest of us learning to create an inhospitable environment for violence to occur, for us to not allow it, for us to assume some responsibility in protecting the innocent. It's about us--not just as mothers or fathers but as a society as a whole..." I agree, wholeheartedly. If you know a man is preying on young women, but have no proof and are a smaller woman yourself, what do you do? In our culture it's ok to make sexual remarks to young women, it's ok to use innuendo, we are just supposed to laugh it off as if it were innocent. I consider it my greatest achievement that I have gotten my daughter to age 9 without being sexually abused. That's six years longer than my parents were able to do with me. But I know I'm not out of the woods yet.— August 25, 2011 8:45 a.m.

The Myth of Illegal Immigration and Food Prices
The cost of labor may be small to the consumer, but to the farm owner it's a big deal. There's no other explanation for them having 6 year olds picking grapes. I'm all for raising the wages. Back before it became this productive we INVITED illegals to come and work. America set up this system, and now we are taking advantage of them and making it out to be their fault. Absurd.— August 19, 2011 7:25 a.m.
The Blue Plate Special
Such candance! "the water is swirling as the line is unfurling wading and waiting anticipating a fire and pan is there anything as grand as that dance of fish and man"— August 17, 2011 10:28 a.m.

City Heights man waits for his father all his life
There is truth in this story. One man's truth. Not the whole truth, because one person CANNOT hold the whole truth alone. Each has their own truths that make up the whole of reality. There are so many kinds of fathers out there. I'm sorry you didn't get a more positive role model. I don't think your story was demeaning to good fathers at all, just another shade of what a father can be. If anything, it makes good fathers look all the much better. It sounds like you've gotten a bit of closure, and a nice ride, and have made a good life for yourself. Whatever else has happened, what your parents did when you were a child helped shape you into the kind of person who nurtures plants, cooks from scratch for his partner and takes the time to show others what is inside of you. Bravo.— August 16, 2011 9:17 a.m.
