The Push for Community-Benefit Districts in Barrio Logan
Probably most of the people who would like to exploit Barrio Logan are at the Urban Land Institute's mayoral forum tonight. Follow the money.— January 18, 2012 7:07 p.m.
Economist Laffer Sued Again
Yes, you sure got it right. If only you were in charge of what goes on in San Diego, we'd be better off! She's supposedly teaching business law at a private college in Lebanon, TN. She no longer has a law license, but did graduate from Florida's Levin College of Law and was licensed in FL in 1982. I'm sure she has lots of shrewd advice to pass on to aspiring and apt students. Back to Laffer - here he is being interviewed on PBS just last week (supply sider? I'd say he deserves a harsher defining name): http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/business/jan-june1… Laffer's introduced as "Reagan's controversial economist" who had his "life threatened, his California home vandalized,"...and who "dropped out of the public eye for years, moved here to Nashville, Tennessee. But though he's an avid collector of fossils, he's no dinosaur,..." Haha.— January 16, 2012 1:20 p.m.
Economist Laffer Sued Again
Golly. San Diego, Nashville, Florida,...where else have I read about that triad of locales? Ah! Nancy Graham, another scoundrel who has gone largely unpunished. Surely she and Laffer have recently chatted over drinks in Tennessee. She's from Nashville and lives just 30 miles up the road now. She took West Palm Beach for a ride prior to riding into San Diego, then riding out under a cloud of accusations. Anything that needs hired guns to increase its credibility is worth avoiding. As are the hired guns.— January 16, 2012 9:30 a.m.
SENTRI Pass Holder Caught with $1M in Methamphetamine

Girls Think Tank Urges Council to Bring Portland Loos to Downtown
The stalling point has always revolved around the maintenance of the loos: who pays for it? Law says RDA $$ may not be used for maintenance, just improvements. That's why you always find the nifty partnership of an assessment district of some sort in the RDA zones. Downtown there is a PBID, but that PBID cannot legally be ordered to foot the bill to maintain the City's loos. The former PBID director, Will Berry, knew this. He came under fire in an ugly council showdown involving ignorant (you know who) councilmembers, who demanded that the PBID pay to maintain the loos.— January 12, 2012 10:11 a.m.
Searching to Replace Filner on House Veterans Affairs Committee
Good thinking, Fred. The way someone looks, or the way he/she smiles or laughs or moves, or whether you'd want to "have a beer" with him/her, is not the way to decide how to cast a vote. GW Bush, Ron Paul, Gentleman Jerry Sanders, etc.,...if I recall, haven't they all been presented as likable? As is Nathan Fletcher. Well. So. What. Their ideologies are not likable. Filner is a very good peoples' advocate, no matter how he physically presents himself. I wish more voters let logic triumph over emotion, as you have.— January 3, 2012 11:32 a.m.
Local TV Station Fights Proposed FCC Disclosure Rules
Hooray for the FCC. As for KUSI, for starters, the entire broadcast and its biased staffers "provide no clear new benefit to the public."— December 30, 2011 2:18 p.m.
Alvarez Stands Alone at City Hall in Support of Refocusing Redevelopment
Stand firm, David Alvarez. You are the best thing to happen to San Diego in a long time.— December 29, 2011 7:47 p.m.
Supreme Court Knocks Out Redevelopment Agencies
yes!!! Aguirre said it perfectly. "Affordable" housing my a**. If you pay close attention, the so-called affordable units downtown and in North Park targeted a demographic that was not low income.— December 29, 2011 11:54 a.m.
Senior Citizen Patrols to Check on Homes for Holidays
This is a great idea! It would be a good thing for planning committees to advertise and coordinate with local beat officers and substations in the city...maybe next year.— December 23, 2011 1:37 p.m.
