City Intends to Dump the Dump
Sad San Diego. Sad council, sad-sack mayor. Thanks for the info, Reader.— February 4, 2011 7:10 p.m.
San Diego Joins the Statewide Race for Redevelopment
Great report. No other entity, especially the U-T, is going to document the ad hoc Gloria committee. We are all - downtown, mid-city, and in outer county regions - watching what happens here.— January 31, 2011 6:35 p.m.
Driver Threatens Driver with Putter
If only the attacker had used his other club...the headline could be "Driver Threatens Driver with Driver." Sigh.— January 31, 2011 9:57 a.m.
State Looking for Redevelopment Fraud. Suggestion: Grantville
Ursula, the downtown condo and property owners pay the usual property bill taxes we all do (Unified Bond series, Prop S, Prop N, Open Space, Community Coll, Zoo, etc.) plus the following Fixed Charge Assessments, the largest of which is paid to the Downtown San Diego Partnership for the PBID maintenance assessment district. This assessment money is what the CCDC wants to use to fund maintenance of the porta-potties that the CCDC can buy but not maintain, under Redevelopment law. Example of assessments from a Ninth and G condo: FIXED CHARGE ASSMTS: VECTOR DISEASE CTRL $4.34 MWD WTR STANDBY CHRG $11.50 DOWNTOWN PBID $137.64 MOSQUITO SURVEILLANC $3.00 CWA WTR AVAILABILITY $10.00— January 31, 2011 8:45 a.m.
Redevelopment of Ponto to Force Residents Out?
Amazing. Using Google street view you can see what a great location Ponto Drive is, for the present homeowners and businesses. It's sad to see the last stretch of real, old, coastal California life disappear.— January 31, 2011 8:30 a.m.
Bay Park: 32 Years of Wildlife and Ocean Views
This is great! We had roaches in Golden Hill, too. We moved eastward and now we just have the wonderful canyon animals, insects, and birds....much better. I used to eyeball that voter roster in GH, but now I just vote by mail, so I miss knowing who is what. You'd be surprised how many Republicans live in GH, at least the property owners. Great blog!— January 28, 2011 1:23 p.m.
PechaKucha: Where You Have 6 Minutes + 40 Seconds to Explain Yourself
Blackson, a nice, chubby, friendly neighbor, lives and works in North Park, not South Park. He makes money by selling urbanization plans. Google him and "Ramona," for an idea of what he does in these lean times for architects. You might not find it so cool. For two reasons, he has inserted himself in the Greater Golden Hill Community Plan Update, even though he doesn't live in the district. 1) He has joined a group of SP and GH realtors, developers, and business owners south of Juniper who support and promote the City's pending change of Land Use Code that allows building of second units on single-family residential parcels. Good business for them, bad for the rest of us who don't want infill and density in our quiet neighborhoods. 2) He has joined with the SP Business Group (realtors and business owners) in asking the City to take a part of Greater North Park (where Blackson lives) north of Juniper and place it in Greater Golden Hill, so that the SPBG fans can be said to be located in "South Park" (they already claim that, when they can, but they are all North Parkers)- mainly to create a Business Improvement District along 30th, that certain SP people can control.— January 12, 2011 2:41 p.m.
San Diego's Broadway Pier — a Wart?
I think it's supposed to rain both days. The building cost $28 million; the bridge the CCDC built (and taxpayers paid for) for fatcats from the Hilton and Petco's skyboxes to walk over Harbor Drive, from the Hilton and Petco Park to the Convention Center, cost $26 million, I think. Which structure do you love the most?— December 14, 2010 7:06 p.m.
Bar Brawl With North Park Rages On
You exceed all expectations! Thank you.— December 9, 2010 5:22 p.m.
Bar Brawl With North Park Rages On
Man, you know everything! And you seem so fair, kind, and considerate.— December 9, 2010 2:02 p.m.
