Duncan Hunter Knows Pizza
Birds of a feather..........Remember the shirtless Republican congressman Chris Lee who posted on Craig's List? From HuffPo, "Sources say Lee was at the Baltimore Waterfront Marriott with House Republicans for the 2011 Republican Retreat on Jan. 14. After a lecture on "intelligent use of information technology" which clearly didn't sink in -- and a few drinks at a pub near the hotel with Rep. Duncan Hunter, Rep. Bill Shuster and Rep. Tom Rooney..." Duncan, keep your shirt on. When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the Reader will know.— February 16, 2011 7:30 p.m.

Still Another SD Ponzi Schemer Headed for Slammer
Revisiting Madoff and JP Morgan Chase, there is an excellent read today in the NY Times, in Frank Rich's column. Rich says the now-disbanded Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission had funding equivalent to the Spider-Man musical. Issa's new committee to conduct an inquiry of the Inquiry will be lucky to have funding equivalent to San Diego's Forever Plaid. And there's probably an analogy there, between the Forever Plaid boys and Isaa's committee. Coming back, for a second chance ... to do in this life what the anti-oversight anti-regulation Republicans never wanted to do previously...should be amusing.— February 13, 2011 7:25 a.m.
CCDC Cancels Propaganda Tour
Oh, and just noticed: The local fishwrap did provide a one-sentence story about a possible redevelopment compromise, giving only the link to another paper. How's that for local journalism!!! Here 'tis (the link to the other paper, not to the fishwrap): http://www.vcstar.com/news/2011/feb/09/redevelopm… If this link to the Ventura County Star fails to work, then go to signonsandiego.com and look under the Business tab, then on that page under the Growth & Development segment. The one-sentence story is titled "Redevelopment compromise in the wind?" The lead sentence begins "The head of the state's redevelopment association, signaling a retreat from the organization's entrenched opposition..." That was evidently too difficult for the U-T to print or contemplate.— February 11, 2011 12:44 p.m.

City Checks Its Math on Five-Year Financial Outlook
Thanks, Dorian. The GF could sure use those TMD dollars, and could be a lot higher...I've paid much higher hotel taxes in other cities.— February 11, 2011 10:58 a.m.
CCDC Cancels Propaganda Tour
Bravo! Wonder if "greater focus" means "some visible signs of support for Redevelopment by the rabble"? If so, don't hold your breath, CCDC. The Sacramento Bee has been running some good pieces on Brown's redevelopment proposal. You won't find anything like these in your local fish wrap, so here are a few from SacBee: Sheriff Brown vs. Redevelopment Marauders: http://www.sacbee.com/2011/02/04/3376486/sheriff-… Voodoo Redevelopment Economics: http://www.sacbee.com/2011/02/06/3381042/dan-walt… Brown's Unlikely Ally: http://www.sacbee.com/2011/02/06/3378854/unlikely… No Evidence of Benefit: http://blogs.sacbee.com/capitolalertlatest/2011/0…— February 11, 2011 10:52 a.m.
City Checks Its Math on Five-Year Financial Outlook
Dorian, Was that twice-counted $10.2 million TOT the hotel-visit tax that goes into the General Fund? And how many dollars is the TOT known as the Tourism Marketing Tax, which goes into the hoteliers' private accounts, for their use, to promote their hotels to out-of-towners?— February 10, 2011 7:24 p.m.
DeMaio Takes Centre City Development to Task for Alleged Lobbying
DeMaio says, "It's my understanding from monitoring the board minutes" ... Gee, can't someone at CCDC just talk to Carl? If you too would like to see the CCDC's proposed "lobby efforts policy" (strange title, no?) you can find it here: http://www.ccdc.com/meetings-and-events/calendar/… In general, the CCDC Board minutes are found at www.ccdc.com, by clicking on "Calendar" under the drop-down menu under "Meetings." For each month on the calendar, the Board meeting occurs on the last Wednesday of the month, and clicking that gets you the minutes. It's a bit tedious (they could just have a neat list of clickable Minutes, but if DeMaio can figure it out, I guess we all can)— February 8, 2011 3:14 p.m.
