Mad About Getting Rid of MAD
Hey, CDC board members, executives, and silly followers: Judge Judy did not decide this issue. Do you understand the term "constitutional"???? The cheating and lying that your little band of grifters and the City engaged in to push this charade forward really don't matter to the court: the deciding issue was the fact that the entire process, specially concocted by the City (with help from former City Attorney Casey Gwinn and Marco Li Mandri), violates the State law and State Constitution. Get it? Even if you and the City had chosen to be honest, you would still lose. You are not in a TV drama with Judge Judy. You can't throw a fit and have the 4th Appellate change its mind. The decision was based on decided case law at the State Supreme Court level. I know it's hard to understand much more than your simple-minded greedy ends-justify-any-means thinking, but ...go away.— October 6, 2011 8:31 a.m.

Paradise Plundered tells San Diego story
Wow! Just checked the SD library website: I'm # 78 in line for the 34 copies defunded SD library ordered. That is hot! More copies and more interested readers than Stephen King gets... The book is available on Kindle for $9.99, for those who cannot wait. Go Erie, Kogan, MacKenzie AND Bauder!— September 29, 2011 7:07 p.m.
Fletcher Picks Up Endorsement From Former Democratic Senator
Deddeh???I have an old potholder with Deddeh's name on it, distributed in some long-ago campaign. What did Deddeh ever do???? Did I ever vote for him? I recently served on jury duty with Deddeh Jr. as judge. Okay. Sorry, Fletch, this is not a hot endorsement. Filner for Mayor, please.— September 27, 2011 5:52 p.m.

Golden Hill Residents Aren't MAD Anymore
One thing the assessment money paid for was the electricity for the Grape Street clock. Submit your guesses now on what time this out-of-place, useless, New England 18th-Century village-style clock will stop again, once the monthly electric bill is no longer paid. The last time the Golden Hill Development Corporation stopped paying the $15-$20 per month electric bill for their clock, it sat at 2:30 for about 10 years. I'm betting it'll stop at 4:04 (I like the 404 Not Found error message!!). The Golden Hill Development Corporation installed the Grape Street clock in 1991, promising the city that it would take care of the "improvement" forever through voluntary contributions "from area residents and businesses. The fund will be administered by the new Golden Hill Community Development Corporation." [City Council minutes, May 13, 1991] After a year or two, it evidently was too burdensome to get voluntary contributions [yeah, right, a "fund"; the GH Development Corporation loves to administer other people's money, but can't even handle their own finances], so the clock stood there, not running, a monument to silliness. Only a totally inept group would find it too hard to get voluntary contributions of a few bucks a month. Enough said.— September 23, 2011 11:58 a.m.
Hotel Tax Does Not Apply to Online Travel Companies
Oooh, soooorry, Surf!— September 9, 2011 8:49 p.m.
Hotel Tax Does Not Apply to Online Travel Companies
"“Municipalities and ... companies should work together to promote travel and tourism for everyone’s benefit,..." Right, "everyone's benefit," including the resident citizens and taxpayers of the municipality. One example of a tax being paid by hotel customers, the TMD add-on to the hotel bill, benefits only the hotel owners and is excluded from the General Fund. The current TMD, put into place in 2008 and due to expire December 2012, is up for some changes: Please note Council Item 53, on Council docket for Tues, Sep 13 2011. And hey, where's the captcha???— September 9, 2011 12:40 p.m.
