Qualcomm accused of illegal scheme
The golden rule. He who has the most gold makes the rules.— January 26, 2017 7:15 a.m.
Qualcomm accused of illegal scheme
QCOM doesn't set standards per se. That's groups like IEEE, 3GPP, FCC, etc. Obviously QCOM has immense influence over these groups but QCOM isn't the only member.— January 26, 2017 7:14 a.m.
Big Fletcher donors behind MLS venue grab
Maybe they can make a run at getting into the PAC-10/12/14/16/whatever it grows to. I've always thought that it would be silly for SDSU to make a move to any other conference. I think a case could be made that SDSU is ready for the PAC-12. The SDSU hoops program has clearly been at a higher level than hoops at most PAC-12 programs over the last several years. The football team has traditionally not been competitive with PAC-12 opponents, but now the football team is reaching a level where it might actually be able to have a respectable record in the PAC-12. With the general sports void left by the Chargers exit, and a top-25 football team this might be the time the Aztecs could make the move.— January 24, 2017 4:20 p.m.

No I don't think necessarily think CDMA's days are numbered but I just think hillclimber's inference that an iPhone with QCOM is nothing more than an iPod was innaccurate. Or maybe it was intended to be hyperbole and I'm just splitting hairs. I'm just saying that it's not like we wouldn't have cell phones, wi fi, etc. without QCOM. QCOM technology is not necessary for any of those things - to the best of my knowledge. QCOM has invented some ways to transmit and receive data more efficiently than other techniques but that doesn't mean the other techniques don't work.— January 24, 2017 8:14 a.m.

If Apple's allegations are true it sounds like what QCOM did was witness tampering. I would have to assume that's illegal in South Korea.— January 24, 2017 6:32 a.m.
Qualcomm accused of illegal scheme
Sounds to me like Apple believes QCOM is the one who wants to renegotiate on signed agreements.— January 24, 2017 6:11 a.m.

I don't quite agree with your last argument.. There are plenty of wireless modulation methods, coding techniques, power management techniques, etc - that QCOM had nothing to do with. CDMA is probably more spectrally efficient than other modulation methods but it's definitely not the only way to send data. WIthout QCOM technology their device with cool features would be a device with cool features with slightly worse performance and battery life.— January 23, 2017 11:13 p.m.

I don't see how it needs to be 40k minimum. 40k is a rare attendance number for SDSU. They will likely have more attendees now that the Chargers are gone, but even so I'm not sure I see how they "need" 40k seats unless they were already regularly drawing 40k+ to every game. Even if that were the case they could just charge a little more for tix at a 30k seat stadium. "The fact is, SDSU has averaged more than 40,000 fans a game at home just three times over the school’s 47-year Division I history." http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/aztecs…— January 23, 2017 3:33 p.m.
NFL supposedly upset with Chargers' move
If I understand things right a trust basically doubles the estate tax exemption (from about 5.5M to 11M) but any heirs are still responsible for 40% estate tax on anything above 11M. So the Spanos kids would owe Uncle Sam about 40% X (Alex Spanos net worth - 11M) Is that right? Or are there additional trust legal techniques to dodge taxes for the very wealthy? How does that work?— January 23, 2017 8:22 a.m.
