Another Sweetwater board meeting mired in disagreement
Ed Brand employs a few of her key campaign contributors.— April 17, 2013 8:47 p.m.
Past and present officials from three South Bay school districts arraigned
Yes, let us please not forget Jorge who has been in on this since the first bond passed years ago. Brand, Sandoval, and Dominguez. Peas in a pod!— April 13, 2013 2:21 p.m.
Sweetwater's gathering storm
You work for the district and use an on line name like W_____? Hope you are not at a school site. And it's been my experience, directly, that this district hires administrators with enough cash to bribe board members, or who have the correct ethnic play card. I wish brains had something to do with it!— February 1, 2013 6:34 a.m.
Sweetwater's gathering storm
That's great news about the county board of education. In the mean time it's spend, spend, spend! For instance, the purchase of iPads for another incoming class of 7th graders. It's wonderful to have this technology but oh so expensive to support. Teachers need to be trained. Schools don't have the band width needed to support all of those iPads all being on line at the same time. Additional classified staff is needed to maintain our existing infrastructure. And when you add an additional several hundred extra iPads to the mix--well, this hasn't been working well with the first round, let alone the next planned addition. AND, the classrooms have an average of 38 students. Special education kids are now undeserved as a result of the districts inability to fully staff it's state mandated programs. And the beat goes on.— February 1, 2013 6:26 a.m.
Sweetwater U partnership opposed by Freedom from Religion
I checked out their web site this morning. Publicly traded on NASDAQ. Also have this interesting tab on one of their pages giving the standard indebtedness of a graduating student. I guess one would call that a disclaimer, or buyer beware? I hope that Freedom from Religion does file their lawsuit. Otherwise we must brave the waters of the Freedom of Information Act to required detailed budget reports from the district.— January 18, 2013 2:33 p.m.
Serious supporters of Sweetwater trustee Pearl Quiñones
Standing right there with you Alex, and heard both references loud and clear.— January 16, 2013 7:24 p.m.
Dust Devil Settles in Southwest High’s Dumped-Dirt Debacle
Otay ranch gets a new track. Otay's principal is promoted. Otay's principal is selected as administrator of the year. Otay's cafeteria staff are implicated in the theft of a half million dollars of goods. Otay and district staff responsible for this theft are allowed to resign and given back pay. Private investigator hired to investigate. Report turned over to D. A., or so we're told. Brand is mum. Can we extract that report using the FOA?— July 30, 2012 6:41 p.m.
Dirt Dumped at Southwest High School's Campus Still Under Investigation
Has anyone considered sending a delegation of citizens to a SDCOE board meeting? I'm pretty sure they follow Robert's Rules of Order and would accept public comments about the countless examples of crime, corruption and mismanagement that have surfaced over the past year or so. Take a rep from the media with you to emphasize your concern. And at risk of beating a dead horse...someone had to let those trucks onto campus. There are people living in those homes overlooking the field. Has anyone talked to them? And speaking of the field, if the district has $500,000 to move the dirt, I say let's keep the dirt and use the half million to recondition that and other fields!— July 16, 2012 9:12 a.m.
Sweetwater Union HS District Board Meeting Skips Public Comment
Rindone wants to get r e-elected. Someone observed earlier that this was going to be a campaign issue in November. We should start asking Rindone why the county board hasn't taken action. He can place an item on the agenda just as easily as the next person. Unless, of course, he's afraid of offending his funding sources. Hmmm. Rindone. Need to check his major campaign donor list.— June 15, 2012 7:09 a.m.
Sweetwater Union HS District Board Meeting Skips Public Comment
Okay, we handle our own finances. What does that mean exactly. Do we have our own bank accounts separate from SDCOE? In other words, do we withdraw our money each month and put it someplace else? And while we're on the subject, what about other funds from the state and federal government? Are they held by the county or withdrawn and put into another bank?— June 15, 2012 6:58 a.m.
