ENSENADA’S CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ‘MEGA MIXER’ A SMASHING SUCCESS!
Actually, Tommy, most of the crimes in Baja California are not drug related. You would know this if you read the Spanish language information that comes out of Mexico, instead of parroting what the Baja Tourism Ministry says. Here is a link to the crimes in Mexico which show Baja is the highest in almost all categories: murders, rapes, robberies, car thefts, etc. It actually shows the organized crime related data and all the rest of the crime: http://www.prominix.com/sblock/web/index.php?new=… Your statements about crime rates in Ensenada are incorrect. You are putting forth a false sense of security that is unwarranted by the empirical data. Your comments contain downright lies refuted by the data published by the government of Mexico and Mexican think tanks. Just as you incorrectly advised your readers to illegally collect Mexican shellfish as fish bait, you are once again leading your readers astray with false information.— March 20, 2012 9 a.m.
ENSENADA’S CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ‘MEGA MIXER’ A SMASHING SUCCESS!
"Ensenada has gained that reputation of being perhaps the safest city in Mexico..." Is that some kind of a sick joke? For the first two months of 2012, there have been 12 murders in Ensenada. This is a murder rate of 25 per 100,000, which happens to be four times greater than the murder rate in the city of Los Angeles. So far in March, the murder rate is zooming even higher. Four men were murdered there just last night. Did you happen to know that Ensenada leads the entire nation of Mexico as the city with the highest incidence of family violence? Tommy, get a grip on reality!— March 18, 2012 6:50 p.m.
Rock Fishermen do it with Mussel!
Well, Baja Tommy, bad news. It is illegal for foreigners to take any kind of shellfish in Mexico, even with a fishing license.— March 12, 2012 1:10 p.m.
Mythbusters: Are there 14,000 expatriates living in Rosarito?
Prettydiva, if you ask the wrong question, you will get the wrong answer. Mexico, unlike the US, has categories for Mexican citizens and Mexican Nationals. A Mexican National is a person born outside of Mexico with at least one Mexican parent. When such a person is registered at the Mexican consulate, they are considered Mexicans, but foreign-born. Those 8,703 foreign-born residents of Rosarito includes mostly foreign-born Mexicans. Because they are Mexicans, they do not need to register with Mexican immigration and do not show up in INM's book of registered foreigners. Furthermore, most of the foreign nationals living in Mexico are not Americans. The largest group is from other Latin America countries. As for refriedgringo, openly confessing to living in Mexico in violation of its immigration laws is not something to be worn like a medal. You are violating the laws of the sovereign Republic of Mexico. Furthermore, working as a journalist in Mexico without a visa and right to work is a violation of Mexico's labor laws. Without a Mexican visa you also have no registration with Hacienda (the Mexican IRS) and no doubt report no earnings nor pay taxes in Mexico. In short you are a scofflaw. It is a mistake to think no one cares.— February 1, 2012 10:52 p.m.
Beach Fossils Wash Up in Tijuana
"Besides the initial rock pelting of our bus, we didn't run into any of the sketchy things I had expected. Apparently, our bus picked us up on the taxi-cab-only turf; therefore, on our way downtown, some taxi drivers threw rocks at our bus and cracked the windows pretty bad. The bits of glass hitting my face only heightened the liveliness of the trip. " You sure are easy to please.— January 3, 2012 9:17 p.m.
Crimes against Americans in Baja
*Here's another one....* The body of an American man around 75-years old, in an advanced state of decay was found inside his home Wednesday night, October 26, 2011. The home was on parcel 21, in the area of Cañón San Carlos in Ensenada. The body was found in one of the rooms and was tied up hand and foot. The body was found by a cleaning person who came to the home and noticed a strong odor. People familiar with the deceased said they only knew him as "Jerry," and he was a peaceful and serious person who did not speak much as he knew little Spanish, but was not a problematic person. http://www.elvigia.net/noticia/encuentran-extranj…— October 28, 2011 8:37 a.m.
Crimes against Americans in Baja
I would point out that your Spanish comprehension needs some polishing. Those stats say that crime is up 1% in all of Baja California, not just Rosarito.— October 27, 2011 7:53 a.m.

The Lake Chapala Hotdog Blues
Lake Chapala? The US Embassy in Guadalahara has a travel alert for Americans in the area. It has instructions on how to run, duck and hide from gunfights. http://guadalajara.usconsulate.gov/annoucements/c… If that fails, it has instructions on how to leave instructions with the Embassy on where to send your body.— October 7, 2011 11:07 p.m.
