Hillcrest historical district plan wiped out
Developers now rule $D and everyone else better realize it, since the new Golden Rule literally means those with the GOLD Rule!— June 17, 2016 2:13 p.m.
Turmoil in parking-enforcement department
I hope Rodriguez gets his day in court and if it is proven that his supervisor has indeed been wrong, I hope his Supervisor gets removed from his position. The City of SD needs to treat everyone and especially its own employees fairly!— June 11, 2016 3:33 p.m.
Signature-gatherer falsely claims petition will save Comic-Con
Don — If any stadium gets built, the City should buy land and build a parking structure nearby because the money it generates will off set any money the City has to spend on the $TADIUM. BTW: The upper level should be designed as an urban park so when it it is not filled with vehicles, it can be use as a Park!— June 4, 2016 3:20 p.m.
Jack in the Box headed to court over North Park "remodel"
tabasco70 — You are either missing the point of the JIB protest or you don't care about what is fair to all those that now have to deal with the fact that JIB changed "the deal" illegally! FACT: JIB broke the Zoning regulations, after being warned and/or told many times, at many meetings, by many local groups that NP's current zoning laws meant that they could not tear down their exterior walls and rebuild if they wanted to retain their drive-thru. JIB decided to do it anyway and gambled that they were too big to oppose, since they have lots of money for lawyers! Now, after forcing the local residents to foot the lawyer fees to get their day in court, JIB is going to end up telling the Judge, why they decided to break the law. The City of SD is also going to have to release construction related documents (that have not yet been released) describing was permitted and just as important, when they were issued. As far as buying up the surrounding residential property, why should home owners get forced out of their homes just so JIB can break the law and expand their business "footprint," when they knew that local zoning rules prevented them from doing it?— May 27, 2016 9:54 a.m.
Who's ready to hit the urban trail?
1) Civic SD has taken Redevelopment Money earmarked for North Park and is spending elsewhere - Why is that? 2) The City goofed when they built the North Park Garage (with Redevelopment money) by not building it to support an urban park on its roof! Hopefully that will not happen again, all parking buildings should provide urban roof parks, unless they are filled with vehicles.— May 26, 2016 9:27 a.m.
Jack in the Box headed to court over North Park "remodel"
Amazing News! All those that helped raise the money (one donation at a time) to fund this lawsuit will now see that they were wise to help fight this "steam roller" deal that might just make Jan Goldsmith look BAD, since he failed to stick up for all the residents of North Park that not only attended many "facilitated" Jack in the Box (JIB) meeting but also the NPPC meetings where the results were always the same, "Rebuild if you must, BUT DO NOT TEAR DOWN THE OUTSIDE WALLS BECAUSE THAT IS NOW ILLEGAL. JIB thumbed their nose at NP and decided to tear down the walls (which made installing a new drive thru illegal) and also put pressure on the City to have someone give them an illegal permit... Now the City is covering up their part in this debacle by telling everyone that they cannot release any documents (even though they are public records). Times are a changing as Bob Dylan said long ago, and since NP residents can now afford a lawyer, it looks like they will not only get their day in Court but will also wind their protest against JIB, which will send a strong message to Developers of all sizes, "Obey the zoning in North Park or you will face the legal consequences! For all those that have not been following this issue, I urge you to use the links provided and find out why the people of NP are so enraged that JIB thumbed their nose at NP.— May 25, 2016 1:39 p.m.
But how many downtown bicycle thefts?
If SD wants everybody to start using bikes the they have to install the infrastructure to help those using bikes to store their bicycles (and eBicycles) safely. This means that the City provide parking "containers" and/or areas secured with video so that these crimes are no longer happening. Who wants to lose their $3,000 (many cost much more) bicycle just because there is no place to park it securely? This is yet another example of the City pushing for change from all of us without making it easy and safe for us. It is now up to the Mayor and City Council to step up and do something beside talk about solving this problem, since shifting commuters from using vehicles to bicycles is one of the cornerstones SD's Climate Change program! BTW: If Bicycle theft resulted in mandatory jail time then we would see this particular crime get reduced quickly!— May 18, 2016 4:23 p.m.
Ooh, you're in trouble, Civic San Diego
Todd Gloria should know all about this since he not only worked with the North Park Redevelopment Project Area Committee (NP-PAC) before running for City Council but he was on the City Council when the State made it easy to strip the money from North Park and give it to Downtown folks to spend as they wished, when it had been dedicated to be spent in North Park. Then there is the sale of NP-PAC assets like the NP Theater which got sold real fast at a low price only to be sold again at a much higher price in what many in NP think was an inside deal! We deserve a full accounting of how this tax increment money was delt with year by year, since it represents mega-millions that have been hidden from the public.— May 7, 2016 1:47 p.m.
Where have the sand crabs gone?
Pacific Ocean sea life is under attack from pollution, especially those that are are the bottom of the food chain, like coral, filter feeders and of course all those that live off of them.— May 5, 2016 7:29 a.m.
Show us the numbers, Civic San Diego
Dorian — Please ask each elected Official, ***on the record***, what they know about the money, so that we can expose this "theft" of public funds, which has been repurposed for things that it was never intended to be spent on, thanks to our City Council and Mayor (whoever they may be, past or current) that pulled a fast one!— May 4, 2016 5:07 p.m.
