Barrio Logan group says basta to stadium rhetoric
The BASTA are correct, this will destroy their neighborhood as it is now. Yes, it will generate big profits for the Chargers owners but it will at the same time "redevelop" the area which will cause the land values and rents to skyrocket. Another downtown $tadium will create yet more traffic blight which is not what the City should be doing if they expect to meet their "climate change" goals. I suggest that BASTA get an environmental/land use lawyer ASAP (maybe the same one that helped fight the One Passeo development) and then join forces with all those that are also opposed to yet another billion dollar $tadium!— July 17, 2016 8:42 a.m.
City's bike-share program needs help, says report
swell — Yes everything is for sale except for the things that are important to the Ultra wealthy and/or well connected, which will remain as they are until some group desides differently! Behold $an Diego, where the rich rule the rest of US.— July 14, 2016 7:39 a.m.
City's bike-share program needs help, says report
HonestGov — No I have not seen any ads on the Deco stands, I predict they will become "magnets" for surf/skate stickers and even less appealing "anti-art" as everyone laughs at all the tourists using Deco.— July 14, 2016 7:31 a.m.
City's bike-share program needs help, says report
Deco is being pushed as a "last mile" solution because the City will generate income from them. I agree that the storage racks take up way too much space and should be angled to the curb so as too take up less sidewalk space. I'd like to see them and their advertising be eliminated because it just makes San Diego look cheap! If Council Members and/or the Mayor want to put up sponsored ads on their offices I'm all for it because then we can see who is paying who for access to our elected leaders!— July 8, 2016 2:16 p.m.
County presidential primary vote fight spills into courtroom
We live in the United States and as such every vote should be counted, especially in close elections like the one we are now having!— July 8, 2016 2:03 p.m.
Hillcrest's Uptown Planners wonder wtf
Marty - Please consider these questions for a follow-on story and then share the information you find out with us. It will help us understand what percentage of the San Diego housing market is Low and Low-Moderate income housing (aka L&LMI units): 1. How many Low and Low-Moderate income units (aka L&LMI units) were built in each of the last 20 years? 2. Where were these L&LMI units built or better yet, can you provide us with a GIS map of where these L&LMI units are located? 3. Can you rank the areas of SD that now have the highest to lowest number of total L&LMI units. 4. Can you relate the number of L&LMI units to the number of new for sale or market rate units? 5. What is the projected need of L&LMI units for the next 5, 10, 15 and 20 years? ==> Unless we start building housing near to where people work (instead of just where land is less expensive like Mid-City) we will not be able to "solve" our transportation problems, so the above information is key to solving SD's Climate Change challenge.— July 7, 2016 8:33 a.m.
Hillcrest's Uptown Planners wonder wtf
SD's housing market is only going one way UPWARD and the idea that more building is going to result in lower cost homes is a marketing ploy by Developers to be able to build more units per lot cheaper. The international value of the US$, SD's acceptance of wealth and SD's near perfect weather will insure that living here is always going to be expensive, especially for all those that don't already own here because those who are in the business of renting/leasing will squeeze their clients for every cent they can get, just like they are doing now, I also believe that we will see property values double, especially for single family homes in cool neighborhoods as ever more of SD's homes are converted to either multi-family use or scraped and developed into multi-story rental units that are too valuable to sell, since they can be rented or leased, since there there will always be a high demand for housing in SD. Consider this simplistic example (using round numbers): A developer buys a single family home for 600k and spends 400k developing the property. If he builds 3 units and they are each worth 350k he has made 15% or $150,000. If he builds 4 units and they are each worth 350k he has made 40% or $400,000. If he builds 6 units and they are each worth 350k he has made 110% or $1,100,000. Yes, the numbers are not exact but the idea is that the more he builds the greater his profits will become since he only has to pay for the land once. Add to this equation is that currently "stick built" construction can go up 6 stories so if you are building and can get the zoning, why not maximize your profits? This is why what we are seeing built is either tall or much taller, since once you decide to pay for site improvements to use steel you can build very tall like the new tall buildings being built along Balboa Park in Hillcrest that are all expensive “penthouses”.— July 7, 2016 8:29 a.m.
Billionaire Democrat's Balboa Park plan revived by GOP mayor
laplayaheritage — You have brought up a great topic for the Reader to explore. The reason that few complained when the State of CA got rid of the Redevelopment Agencies is because the Cities were going to get a huge amount of money that they could do whatever they wanted too with, since they are not limited by the previous legal agreements with what used to be called the Redevelopment Agency. All the millions that North Park was supposed to get have now been taken by the City and will be used for doing Projects outside North Park thanks to the SA and the City of San Diego or as I like to call it the City of $an Diego.— July 1, 2016 2:10 p.m.
Tax-free stadium plan? Beware
The City should plan to own the Parking around any new $tadium which will help offset the cost of the $tadium and its roof can also serve as an urban park when it is not needed fir parking!— June 24, 2016 12:31 p.m.
San Diego doesn't represent the nation closely
$D is becoming even an more expensive place to live as Big Developers now have the City's elected leaders in their pocket. Expect to see Big Density become the norm as property values continue to escalate! Infill housing (under the guise of "affordable housing") will make many more parts of San Diego look like what is being built along the North side of Mission Valley, building after building of 5+ floors of rental/lease housing.— June 17, 2016 2:51 p.m.
