LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously today to ask federal regulators not to allow the restart of the crippled San Onofre nuclear reactors before the formal public process to determine whether Edison’s experimental restart plan is safe and all needed repairs or replacements are completed .
The resolution by District 5 Councilmember Paul Koretz and District 11 Councilmember Bill Rosendahl, which passed 11-0, thanks in part to the leadership of Councilmember Jose Huizar who chairs the Council's Energy and Environment Committee, expresses support for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission to:
make no decision about restarting either San Onofre unit until it has fully reviewed public safety through a prudent, transparent, and precautionary process, has allowed independent experts and the public ample opportunity to comment, and has confirmed that Southern California Edison has completed any resulting mandated repairs, replacements, or other actions necessary to guarantee both short and long-term safe operation of San Onofre . . . [The City also encourages the NRC] to take the time needed to independently determine whether or not the information, analysis and actions provided by Southern California Edison constitute a solid technical basis for the adequate protection of the public and resumption of operations. — April 24, 2013 5:54 p.m.

Trestles toll-road plan revived
This is how things are DONE in the NEW CALIFORNIA, where meetings are continually called until the timing is right to get whatever it is past, then NO MORE MEETINGS! Wake up SoCal you are being "PUNKED" by the very people you elected to protect your way of life! A Toll Road = Big Money = Political Influence Remember the South Bay Toll Road which made BIG money for those that promoted and/or built it! This is why all meeting need to be run under the Brown Act, so the public can find out what the agenda is BEFORE THE MEETING.— April 27, 2013 7:43 a.m.

Great fact filled comment! Both Council member Alvarez and the Mayor should ask the City Attorney to find out ASAP what is going on in Barrio Logan in order to shed some light on this INSIDER DEAL.— April 27, 2013 7:37 a.m.

The real question is why are the residents of this area allowing anyone but themselves determine who is paid how much to run THEIR MAD. The engineers report that defines what projects the MAD can and cannot do is the all important document and the MAD's Board should be elected by sub districts of the MAD , not appointed or selected by any percentages or groupings; that way each area of the MAD will have their own rep to insure they all get a fair piece of the MAD's Pie! + The Unified School vote should be counted as which ever way the majority votes since they represent public.— April 26, 2013 12:51 p.m.
San Diego Gas & Electric rates are nation's highest
The reason we have just about the highest priced energy in the USA is because we are being ripped off and the CPUC is enabling SCE and SDG&E to get away with it; while the shareholders of those Corp.'s have been enjoying record profits! These Utilities are supposed to be serving the common good, instead they are they taking advantage of us and looking out for themselves and their shareholders... It is time to change the name of our City to: ***$an Diego, America's Most Connected City, Where Money Rules***— April 24, 2013 7:09 p.m.
Calls for public hearings on San Onofre grow, fears about summer power supply may be exaggerated
Face it we have had occasional Brown outs for any number of reasons over the years with and without San Onofre in operation and that is a fact. The CA ISO (Independent System Operators) have said that we now have a 20% surplus without either San Onofre or El Diablo nuclear plants, so I say relax and have SCE prove that we don't have enough energy and that we NEED San Onofre; this is the reason for the CPUC investigation which is focused of fiscal reasonableness. Much more factual information on this issue here: [http://sanonofresafety.org/energy-options/][1] Now that San Onofre has NOT been in operation for over a year we have had no problems to speak of because if we did then SCE and SDG&E would have been telling US all about it; which leaves US to wonder what is the real reason the SCE and SDG&E is doing what they are doing beside trying to ***cover their assets***? They now owe ratepayers between a half a Billion and 1.5 Billion dollars depending on how hard they can push the CPUC to not require them to rebate US what they have already collected from ratepayers and that number is continuing to grow at about $75 million a month, since the CPUC has not taken San Onofre off the rate base even though they are not producing any power, since bout Unit 2 and Unit 3 are shut down! The reason we have just about the highest priced energy in the USA is because we are being ripped off and the CPUC is enabling SCE and SDG&E to get away with it; while the shareholders of those Corp.'s have been enjoying record profits! Calls for public hearings on San Onofre grow, fears about summer power supply may be exaggerated
SCE has been dragging its "feet" on installing new solar capacity, since that would make San Onofre un-necessary and which just makes a brown out more likely, when instead there are just trying to justify their 1.5 Billion ratepayer rip off! If they get away with this ripoff, prepare for even greater Energy Slavery... In too many places in the USA, the Utilities now have a monopoly on providing energy and are only controlled by a regulatory authority that has now become nothing but a cheerleader for the Utility, so the ratepayers are getting fleeced, while shareholders of the Utility make record profits! In Southern California, SCE now has taken about 1.5 Billion Dollars to rebuild 4 huge replacement steam generators at San Onofre's reactors Unit 2 and 3 but they have all failed very soon after being put in service and SCE is still collecting about 68 million a month in fees, while they try and figure out how not to get stuck with the bill!— April 24, 2013 6:03 p.m.
