SANDAG's Uptown bikeway plan not widely accepted
RE: SANDAG spokesperson Update: *Traffic calming* is yet more **Density Speak** for making it harder and slower to drive in these areas! Want a great example, try driving in Bird Rock to see the effect of these "improvements"... which might be great for the local businesses but it does nothing but encourage vehicular thru-traffic to use side streets in the residential areas instead of the streets designed for it in the business district! The City of San Diego is now doing everything it can to help local businesses while turning its back on residential quality of life for all those living within walking distance of the business district, since now employees and customers all seek residential street parking because the City and/or the business districts have failed to provide it for customers in the business district.— January 16, 2014 12:20 p.m.

1. Surprise, I'm for both, only one is getting all the media and money and the public restrooms issue is lost in the background noise... 2. The ridership on mass transit is "hit and miss" and it only takes one bad experience to affect your life, just like having a bicycle accident. Who wants to get off a bus late at night and walk home, if they could drive themselves home in relative safety. 3. Locker should be everywhere, not just at some token locations, so people can ride to work, not just to a transfer station. 4. I have built my own light weight bicycle frame decades ago, but I mostly ride a old bike around town, but even losing the front wheel of that one can cost about $100 to replace, not to mention walking the one wheeled bike home at night. 5. I ride to places and do not use the bus to carry by bike.— January 16, 2014 9:41 a.m.
Death of a news wire
Heres hoping that something good comes out of this CHANGE since now only a handful of BIG Corp.'s own most of MSM in the USA and their real focus is on Big Sports and many other "fluff" stories, never really even mentioning many of the topics that should be in the news about our local, State and National news topics of interest! Many see them for what they are Political Propaganda Powerhouses, used to push Big Businesses agenda upon all viewers in an effort to urge viewers to support new stadiums and other projects which are really only profitable for their Wealthy Owners... One Man One Vote has now become One Dollar One Vote in the USA... Want to know what topics we are missing these days? ***Watch this great Netflix "movie" The People Speak*** [http://dvd.netflix.com/Movie/The-People-Speak/701…] [1]: http://dvd.netflix.com/Movie/The-People-Speak/701…— January 15, 2014 2:01 p.m.

Face it the City is famous for taking from one account to fund another project that is some Councilmember or Mayors pet project... **Where are all the improvements that have been promised to all our neighborhoods in return for accepting ADDITIONAL DENSITY which the City has pushed into our neighborhoods?** I'm an avid cyclist, but what about all those that cannot cycle, where are the street benches and more importantly where are all the public restrooms that each district should be installing (so that the homeless don't continue to use our alleys and yards as their bathrooms) that our City Council has been talking about for decades but somehow never gets around to installing? City-wide priorities need to be set and then followed, instead of installing pet projects to payback supporters in a willy-nilly fashion! Come On SD Leaders, lets plan for the widest possible group of people using all manner of mobility "vehicles" not JUST the lucky few that are physically strong enough to ride bicycles. A few points to consider: 1. Where is all the new motorcycle parking stripping, so riders can park for free in all the odd shaped nooks and crannies on our City streets without taking up a metered spot, or are bicycles the only things that are important these days? There should be motorcycle and/or electric bicycle parking everywhere not just in a few corrals that cost many thousands of dollars each to install and the removal of on-street vehicle parking spaces! 2. Expensive bikes need parking locations that offer security, why is the city not also installing secure cycle parking lockers, if we really want to encourage commuters to "ride to work"? How many can afford to lock their $4,000 bike up to a parking meter and then replace all the components after they have been stolen or damaged by vandals? 3. One complain I've heard is that the City is using bicycle lanes to not only change traffic patterns but to somehow justify reducing the parking requirements for both new construction and/or remodeling, since they believe in the myth that all residents will use mass transit and not own cars in the future... which is feel good speak for the poor will be force into transportation corridors that will shift iit's parking burden into adjacent neighborhoods, which is already happening in North Park and other locations through San Diego! Watch out what you support, it may come back to bite your neighborhood and your property values if you are lucky enough to own! BTW: Leo knows, since he has been leading the good fight for many years and has seen vast amounts of money go for things that were not scheduled or needed, except for a chosen few that have connections in City Hall.— January 15, 2014 1:38 p.m.
Billionaire Buffett partner's son backs Faulconer
This story points out how California voters in general, and especially how ***San Diego voters are being played by those with huge assets***, who are now spending mega bucks to help their chosen candidates get elected and control California's future! I'm sure to these Big Donors, it is a wonderful investment in their vision of San Diego's future, (which also happens to be deductible), since with only two candidates running, their odds of "winning" are 50-50, which is almost a sure bet as compared to playing the CA Lotto! This election is especially important because since California "leads the way" for the rest of the US, *having California do less leading* in areas like abortion, same sex marriages, solar energy and medical marijuana, would also benefit the Ultra Wealthy's control of many other states that now seek the same rights as Californians, which are now already under their control! Luckily, California's voters are hopefully not yet dumbed down enough to fall for things like Gerrymandering Prop 20 mentioned above, but one thing is for sure; since candidates get to keep donations they do not spend, both candidates running for Mayor in San Diego, will themselves be enriched by this election! All those that remember San Diego as a real laid back California Surf City and primo Navy home base are now realizing that times have changed as Big Business and especially those with Mega Bucks are now running our City, controlling all our Media outlets (including the UT and many other local papers) and now even determining who will be our next Mayor, all thanks to the SCOTUS decision that allows Corp.s to donate to political campaigns! In San Diego Politics, what used to be "one man, one vote" is now "one dollar, one vote" and to be able to stay in the race in order to get elected, candidates must now compete for donations! Once elected, all those big donations guarantee access to elected decision makers and all those that report to them. This access translates into political support for things like stadiums, big downtown projects and increases in Union wages. Everyone who "supported" the winning candidate knows that they too, will benefit from this election. This to a lessor degree, is what got San Diego into fiscal hot water in the past and now it is looking like it will happen again as both candidates talk about financing new Big Projects, instead of cutting costs and making City Government more accountable to voters. Now, as ever more residents are priced out of living in San Diego, San Diego is becoming like another Hawaiian Island, a beautiful place for tourists to visit, but unless you are wealthy, each year makes it more difficult to live here and if we are not very lucky, this election will speed that process up.— December 21, 2013 8:24 a.m.

San Diego's Code Monitoring Team: Foxes guard the henhouse
A surprise that is not really a surprise, since our City which claims to be open is really filled with these types of semi-secret groups filled with our City Official selected insiders to steer us, instead of us steering our Government! City Council appointees are just another way to ***game the system***, while our elected officials all smile back at us and tell us they are listening to all sides before they do *what is best for business*. Another example was the $400,000 that Hess Brewery got from Mayor Sander's office to open in North Park, which was not publicized, since many in North Park feel that they have too may alcohol licensee's already. Voters should be asking each of their elected officials to publicly state any monies given out and/or how they selected the people chosen to fill seats on all advisory Boards! Please consider posting a listing of all of the semi-secret advisory Boards along with who is serving on them and who appointed them... That listing will expose ***why the fix is in*** and how the majority of San Diego voters are being played fools by those elected to serve us. After the next election, expect things to get much worse, since **BOTH** our candidates have accepted record amount of donations which will translate into every more spending that will benefit those that gave the BIG donations!— December 19, 2013 6:52 a.m.

**Story Update:** The Rt. Rev. James R. Mathes, *Bishop*, Episcopal Diocese of San Diego, via email: - > The property is owned by the diocese and is not for sale > We have no plans beyond remediating deferred maintenance and rejuvenating the congregation. Rest assured if anything is contemplated that might impact the neighborhood we would certainly let folks know. .— December 2, 2013 3:33 a.m.
Superrich NOT leaving California, says study
The rich need to live near others that have money since they want to be insulated from the poor, least the poor get jealous and become rowdy or worse! The middle class used to provide that buffer but now, as we all know, the middle class is rapidly shrinking as the ultra wealthy re-acquire the majority of wealth in the USA. The top 1% now have more than half of all the people living in the USA, something that has never before happened. **Great example of the NEW America:** The Walton family has a fortune estimated to be over $144.7 billion. FACT: Most Walmart workers make less than $25K/yr.— November 28, 2013 12:37 p.m.
