SDSU appoints Tony Gwynn Statue to take over Tony Gywnn's coaching contract
I'm the last person to hold anything reverently but Tony Gwynn? So soon? Bad taste, bad timing; bad call on the editorial staff.— June 19, 2014 3:20 p.m.
Homeless and at home in Hillcrest
Let me start by saying, I believe that we all have a choice. We turn away judgementally citing, "Ah he'll just spend it on booze or drugs", or "my God he smells awfull" or a myriad of self righteous justifications and rationalizations. We can also simply reach into our hearts and pockets and help out with some change, a bill or even a beer. "But you're enabling him, he'll come to expect it and then he'll be a blight on our neighborhood" Hogwash! They're in every neighborhood as sure as there's seagulls in the air crapping on everything. This isn't about Jesus, or Buddha, or Krishna or Muhhamed. This is about us as a collective society that has turned to warehousing our elders in "retirement communities" that turn into nothing more than a death sentence with no execution date for the people we once revered for their experience and wisdom. This is about simple true and unconditional charity that expects nothing in return except for that warm fuzzy feeling a person gets when doing something good. This progressive, moving forward society has lost it's humanity and with that, our ability to evolve. So its refreshing to read this touching story. Very refreshing and full of hope. Let me finish by saying simply, I BELIEVE.— June 14, 2014 9:53 a.m.
Did Leaky and Rascal attempt murder?

neighborhoods/otay-mesa -- Otay Mesa
Got so sick of writing my entries here that I stopped for quite a while. I guess the only validation I get is from myself. Only goes to prove a certain study right. The inter-web has us all so easily connected with the ability to comment on most anything. Yet, we find ourselves in quite a lonely state. We sit in front of our keyboards and wait for something juicy to put our two cents into. We express outrage, happiness, love and we post poignant images or touching sayings. At times we choose to argue and point out other's misconceptions which are only coming from our perspective. Whos to say who is right and who is wrong? This relatively new technology has afforded us so many new advantages but, at what cost? Let me go back a bit. When the piston motor was invented it needed fuel to combust and get those pistons moving. That created what we have now. A petroleum dependent society that created wealthy and self serving oil barons. Not to mention the pollution both in emissions but in the exploitation of petroleum caches throughout the world creating another polluting industry. Now, this computer and its bastard child the internet. Our children spend hours a day on it, when they're not on their smartphones participating in the same brain numbing activities. Our thirst for convenience and comfort has exacted a terrible price that we cannot see the forest for the trees! I yearn for a simpler yet hard working time when a man's worth was weighed in sweat, resolve and honest hard work. Not in this capitalistic monster we westerners have created that is destroying our society for the pursuit of wealth. Our elders were once revered for their wisdom, knowledge and experience. Now we put them away in homes where the illusion of a fulfilling retirement is nothing more than a death sentence with no execution date. The proverbial snow ball has gained so much speed in these last 250 years that it boggles the mind. I wish we could stop it but, it is way too late. How much more time do we have left before we finally destroy ourselves and our precious children? Get close to your families people. Talk to them, hold them, hug them, love them.— May 30, 2014 3:52 p.m.
Guilty Trustees (is not, unfortunately, a band name)
Victory Cosultants is a company that employs and facilitates petition drives and their respective circulators. Get your community to bankroll a petition drive to get him out. That is all I can contibute to this mess.— April 30, 2014 9:26 a.m.
Will money defeat Barrio Logan residents?
The headline should have read,"Money will defeat Barrio Logan residents" Sorry Dorian. After Filner's implosion big money stepped right in to put in their boy. They took advantage of the voters who were disgusted with what Filner did knowing full and well many wouldn't show at the polls and the self fulfilling prophesy was complete. Now they're pouring big money into their agenda. Looking at the short term its a good thing for industry, and for our local economy. However, is it really fair for someone that lives in Paradise Hills, Otay Mesa, or Mira Mesa for that matter to vote on a measure that affects Barrio Logan? I think not. My brother lived in that affordable housing development directly under the Coronado bridge for only a few months. In no time at all, both his children developed respiratory issues. He was able to leave. What happens to the residents of Barrio Logan who can't relocate when this goes through? In the end, there will be countless lawsuits due to health issues. How much will that cost? Is it worth it?— April 29, 2014 1:45 p.m.
Manchester gets his man on planning commission
ayeis, apparently the ability to glean content from my post is not one of your strong points. Feel free to read the first sentence I posted. Go ahead, I'll wait. (Jeopardy music playing for an unusually long time in the background) Does that knee still have the desire to jerk around? Then try again! Go ahead, I'll wait. Oh, you're still with me here. Had Filner not had the disgusting habit of not keeping his hands to himself, he would still be in office, would still be going after the corporate welfare whores and Doug Manchester would have to be pursuing other means to continue his agenda. Yes, the big money did get him out, and they did it swiftly and apparently they did it so adeptly they obviously fooled someone like you. Any more judgements you'd like to pass?— April 29, 2014 10:35 a.m.
Manchester gets his man on planning commission
So Filner was arrogant and shortsighted enough to keep pursuing his perverse behavior and the big money got him out. So now they can keep pursuing their perverse, self serving business as usual. Wish I could say I was surprised. It sickens me.— April 28, 2014 5:27 p.m.
San Diego Opera calls it quits
When the fine arts suffer, our culture suffers. Its a shame that our priorities and values have shifted so drastically in such a relatively short amount of time. Sure, there are other interests that distract us from our day to day lives but they have no real value. Okay, I'm a sports fan but I understand its just a game that benefits only a few. I love the fine arts in all her forms and believe we are the worse for it. So I am deeply saddened at this turn of events. So where am I to take the Grandkids in their tuxedos and formal gowns now?— March 19, 2014 10:04 p.m.
Thugs shot by would-be victim make plea deals
Please your Honor, please; vacate this atrocious deal and give these thugs the max. When are we going to really send a message to these people? Be an example, not just another bump in the road.— March 19, 2014 7:19 p.m.
