Kassim Alhimidi deemed a murderer
The tearful mother of the murder victim briefly spoke to news cameras after the verdict. With the help of the court-provided Arabic interpreter, the woman emphasized that she believed the jury's decision was "not a mistake." She also said that her daughter's sons are now living with her in Texas.

Murder suspect in custody three years with no evidence presented yet
David Lucero was in court again recently, and another mental competency hearing has been set for May 1, 2014. Lucero was taken into custody in April of 2010, and he has been held four years without any evidence presented against him, in court. Celebrity attorney Geragos did confirm that he still represents the accused, Lucero. The defendant turned 29 years old, two months ago.

Some gal pal Donna Lee Darling turned out to be
Defense attorney Herb Weston has gotten many delays, but today he confirmed a trial date of May 20, 2014, for his client Donna Lee Darling. She continues to plead not-guilty to charges of elder abuse and attempted murder on the 92-year-old man.

Suspected bike thieves rough up schoolboy
Both suspects were arrested on suspicion of robbery, and prosecutor Mei Owen brought the case to the judge with *robbery* charges. Superior Court Judge Harry Elias heard the evidence during a preliminary hearing, and both defendants were ordered to answer *theft* charges. The young victim was struck from behind and admitted he was not wearing his glasses, so there became identification issues. It is also possible the judge is showing compassion, considering these two 18-year-olds are in danger of starting their adult lives with a "strike" conviction for strong-armed robbery.

Stepdaughter charged in Escondido murder
Criminal proceedings against accused killer Asiatae Robinette Bell were “suspended” late last month, on February 26, 2014. On that date, Honorable Judge Joseph Brannigan found defendant Bell “not mentally competent” and committed her to Patton State Hospital for a “maximum” of three years. The judge also authorized the hospital to “involuntarily administer antipsychotic medication” as prescribed by the “treating psychiatrist,” according to documents in court files. Defendant Bell “lacks capacity to make a decision regarding antipsychotic medication” and without it, “serious harm” is possible, the papers stated.

Oceanside party ends up at hospital
The two Sroufe brothers admitted assault in separate plea deals last January, and both men were sentenced to prison on March 6, 2014. Matthew William Sroufe, 27, pleaded guilty to assault with a knife and admitted a prior robbery “strike” conviction, which doubled his prison term for the new offense to ten years. Older brother Andrew Ryan Sroufe, 31, admitted felony assault and was sentenced to 2 years prison. As part of the plea deal, time for Andrew’s other cases (three stolen vehicles and a first degree burglary and two heroin possessions) will run concurrent with the new assault case. Attempts were made to contact the stabbing victim before sentencing, according to a report in the court file, but “Mr. Esparza has not returned the calls.”

Court hearing delayed for boy charged as adult in murder case
Yesterday, March 13 2014, a date was confirmed for trial. The teenaged defendant turned 17 this year, and is on calendar to begin a murder trial on May 7, 2014, in San Diego's North County Superior Courthouse.

Ghazal Mansury denies killing 79-year-old mother
The hearing this week was to see if prosecutor Paul Greenwood had enough evidence against defendant Ghazal Mansury, for the judge to order the case to go forward. And the deputy DA carefully built his case with more than 30 witnesses and 70 exhibits, and a detailed timeline for the judge to see all the pieces organized. It remains to be seen if this prosecutor, or another, is building a case against anyone else.

Kassim Alhimidi deemed a murderer
The tearful mother of the murder victim briefly spoke to news cameras after the verdict. With the help of the court-provided Arabic interpreter, the woman emphasized that she believed the jury's decision was "not a mistake." She also said that her daughter's sons are now living with her in Texas. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2014/a…— April 17, 2014 5:40 p.m.

It is also possible the judge is showing compassion, considering these two 18-year-olds are in danger of starting their adult lives with a "strike" conviction for strong-armed robbery. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2014/m… http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2014/m…— March 20, 2014 6:58 a.m.
Defendant Bell “lacks capacity to make a decision regarding antipsychotic medication” and without it, “serious harm” is possible, the papers stated.— March 19, 2014 6:52 a.m.

Esparza has not returned the calls.”— March 18, 2014 12:24 a.m.

It remains to be seen if this prosecutor, or another, is building a case against anyone else. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2014/m…— March 7, 2014 8:36 a.m.
