Chinchilla rancher Lurlie Adams passes away
Adams’ attorney released a statement today, December 9 2014. Michael Curran stated that Mrs. Adams suffered a burst aorta/heart failure and passed away the evening of December 4. She was 90 years old. He said a “celebration of her life” is being planned for mid-January 2015. “The always cheerful, warm and friendly Ms. Adams had been under great stress since the defamatory/false light events of August 2014,” her attorney in the civil suit against PETA said in an email, one hour ago. “This alleged misconduct by the Defendants undeniably aggravated her stress and heart conditions. The family and close friends are convinced these events significantly contributed to her stress and possibly her death. This firm is currently investigating with her medical care providers whether a claim for wrongful death is also supported by the evidence.” The attorney stated that Mrs. Adams is survived by her husband Jim Adams, 95, and daughter Brenda Ross, 67. Curran said he intends to continue the lawsuit by “filing the declaration of her daughter Ms. Ross.” The next hearing in this case is set for December 19, in San Diego’s North County Superior Court before judge Casserly.

Former cop to go on trial again
According to prosecutor Tracy Prior, the accused woman was not a police officer at the time of the fatal collision. At her court hearing this morning, November 24, 2014, defendant Katherine Ann Heinzel was allowed to push back her trial date until May of 2015. Honorable judge K. Michael Kirkman confirmed that defendant is out on bond and is wearing a SCRAM device. (Reportedly a tamper-resistant device that is worn around the ankle, intended to test the wearer's sweat at least once an hour for alcohol.) The accused woman is next due in court on February 23, 2015, to confirm the trial date.

Former cop to go on trial again
These other photos by Bob Weatherston show the long, steep drop off at the side of Interstate 15, near the Old Highway 395 exit, where the cars went over. Really it is amazing that anybody survived the catastrophe.

"This case is as serious as it gets"
There was a brief hearing today, November 18, 2014, on this case, but defendant Jeffrey Barton was not brought into the courtroom. The judge looked over subpoenaed documents to decide what might be confidential or protected by attorney-client privilege, and attorneys agreed on who would get what information. The next court date was set for Dec 15, to be a status conference. The defendant is expected to be present for that hearing. Jury selection for a one-month trial is set for February 9 2015. Potential jurors will be asked to fill out a questionnaire in San Diego’s North County Courthouse and will meet Judge Harry Elias before they are sent to the courtroom.

Justice for mom found dead in bed
After the hearing on October 31, 2014, prosecutor Patrick Espinoza stated, “The Officer of the Public Conservator recommended that Lucero be confined and psychiatrically treated at a state hospital because he continues to represent a significant danger to others.” According to the deputy district attorney, a San Diego Superior Court judge did order the Murphy Conservatorship because efforts to restore the mental competency of David Leroy Lucero, now 29, were unsuccessful. He has been in custody since 2010. This commitment will last one year, but can be extended indefinitely if a new conservatorship is obtained each year, according to a memorandum dated May 15, 2001, authored by Michele Mudgett, who is a patients’ rights specialist for an advocacy group in Sacramento, California.

Maybe crazy, but not insane
The impression from Juror Number Four was that the group was not distracted, trying to figure out exactly what happened just before Sherry got hammered to death. That is, was there an angry confrontation over money, or about Bryan pestering his mom to borrow her car? Instead, jurors focused attention on the legal technicalities, such as the proof threshold for the legal definition of insanity. Not to put words in anybody's mouth, this was an impression from his comments. And thanks for the kind words, Visduh.

Maybe crazy, but not insane
After the verdict, Juror Number Four spoke to news reporters in the hallway. He said they discussed the proof threshold of "more likely than not." And he declared, "We don't really know what happened in that house," and he mentioned suggestions made during trial -- that the killing was an emotional outburst or in anger. Juror Number Four said that whether there was an argument about "the car or money was not important."

Ross.” The next hearing in this case is set for December 19, in San Diego’s North County Superior Court before judge Casserly. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2014/d…— December 9, 2014 2:17 p.m.
(Reportedly a tamper-resistant device that is worn around the ankle, intended to test the wearer's sweat at least once an hour for alcohol.) The accused woman is next due in court on February 23, 2015, to confirm the trial date. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2014/n…— November 24, 2014 2:04 p.m.

These other photos by Bob Weatherston show the long, steep drop off at the side of Interstate 15, near the Old Highway 395 exit, where the cars went over. Really it is amazing that anybody survived the catastrophe. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2014/n… http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2014/n…— November 22, 2014 3:39 p.m.
Potential jurors will be asked to fill out a questionnaire in San Diego’s North County Courthouse and will meet Judge Harry Elias before they are sent to the courtroom. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2014/n…— November 18, 2014 2:50 p.m.
This commitment will last one year, but can be extended indefinitely if a new conservatorship is obtained each year, according to a memorandum dated May 15, 2001, authored by Michele Mudgett, who is a patients’ rights specialist for an advocacy group in Sacramento, California. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2014/n…— November 9, 2014 5:35 a.m.
And thanks for the kind words, Visduh.— November 7, 2014 4:43 p.m.
Juror Number Four said that whether there was an argument about "the car or money was not important." http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2014/n…— November 6, 2014 2:28 p.m.
