Oceanside man denies seeking child for sex
Prosecutor Keith Watanabe issued a statement after Rennard Cawkwell was sentenced on May 30, 2018. "He got the max of 4 years state prison. Strike was not struck so it doubled his sentence." (Sometimes a judge will ignore or "strike" consideration of a former felony conviction, which is supposed to increase future sentencings.) The prosecutor continued: "This case was every parents worst nightmare. He took advantage of the most vulnerable in our society." And the prosecutor sounded frustrated when he predicted: "He is a dangerous sexual predator who will continue his online predatory behavior once he’s released."

The Benadryl did it
The jury deliberated almost a full day, since yesterday afternoon, and came back with a verdict after lunch on Wednesday May 23, 2018. David McGee was declared guilty of first degree murder, and the jury unanimously agreed that he used a deadly weapon on his mother. Sentencing is set for June 25, before judge Blaine Bowman, who heard the trial.

Grandview surfer girl fought attacker
San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan released a statement declaring that Jeremiah Owens, 28, pleaded guilty to attempted kidnap of minor for rape, and that he was sentenced to seven years in prison yesterday, May 21. Owens will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. According to the DA's office, co-defendant Christopher White pleaded guilty to a felony, accessory to kidnap, and is expected to be sentenced to one year in custody plus three years of probation on June 19. Because White has been held in custody since his arrest, he will probably be released soon after that sentencing date.

The Benadryl did it
The Escondido police officers who responded turned on their body-worn cameras. The audio and video has been entered as evidence in this trial. The attorneys are sure to argue about exactly how lucid the naked suspect actually was, already there is conflicting testimony regarding this. Here is one screen grab of David McGee captured that day.

Grandview surfer girl fought attacker
It looks like Jeremiah Owens made a plea deal, he is currently scheduled to be in court on May 21, 2018 for sentencing. His criminal file was not immediately available, to learn exactly what that deal might be. Co-defendant Chris White continues to fight all charges, his next court date is June 12 to confirm a trial date for July, 2018. The court file for Chris White is filling up with letters from friends and family, these passionately defend the good character of defendant White.

Open window reveals new boyfriend
Jeffry Edwards dismissed his public defender and now has Peter Liss as his private counsel. Edwards is next due in court on May 31, to confirm a misdemeanor trial date of June 27, in San Diego's North County Superior Courthouse. Notes in Edward's criminal file indicate there is body-camera footage from police officers; his attorney is trying to suppress dissemination of that video footage.

Woman accused of looting Bonsall home during fire
Sacheen Silvercloud made a plea deal on March 29, 2018. Her handwritten statement is: “During and within an affected county in a local emergency resulting from fire I violated Penal code 459 punishable as a second degree burlgary per penal codes 461 subd 2. Intent to steal.” Judge Kirkman, prosecutor C. Ryan, and her attorney A.P. Zmurkiewircz signed off on the felony plea deal. Silvercloud got credit for 121 actual days in custody and 120 more days credit for "good behavior" and was released into 3 years formal probation.

He took advantage of the most vulnerable in our society." And the prosecutor sounded frustrated when he predicted: "He is a dangerous sexual predator who will continue his online predatory behavior once he’s released." http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2018/j…— June 1, 2018 11:45 a.m.

Because White has been held in custody since his arrest, he will probably be released soon after that sentencing date. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2018/m…— May 22, 2018 5:46 a.m.

The Benadryl did it
The Escondido police officers who responded turned on their body-worn cameras. The audio and video has been entered as evidence in this trial. The attorneys are sure to argue about exactly how lucid the naked suspect actually was, already there is conflicting testimony regarding this. Here is one screen grab of David McGee captured that day. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2018/m…— May 12, 2018 5:06 a.m.

The court file for Chris White is filling up with letters from friends and family, these passionately defend the good character of defendant White. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2018/m…— May 4, 2018 4:24 p.m.
