A father's blood in Rancho Santa Fe
Kimberley Anne Dorey filed a civil suit on May 17, 2019, two years after she found her husband’s bloody body in their Rancho Santa Fe home, on May 30, 2017. Her suit makes the unusual claim that the killer knew she would soon find her husband’s body, and that was intentional cruelty. The suit states: “LB’s aforementioned conduct was outrageous and despicable. LB acted with reckless disregard…and knowing that Plaintiff …would soon be present at the Rancho Santa Fe home and discover Decedent’s murder…LB intended to cause Plaintiff severe emotional distress.” The bereaved widow is seeking damages from Leighton Bromiley Dorey IV, who was 39 years old when his 71-year-old father, Leighton Bromiley Dorey III, was brutally beaten and stomped and strangled to death. In court paperwork, the widow declared that it was Leighton Bromiley Dorey IV or LB who committed the “intentional, wrongful, and malicious acts.” And, plaintiff Kimberley Dorey “continues to suffer severe, substantial, and enduring emotional distress…” The widow’s civil suit is seeking unspecified, “unlimited” damages, which can be anything over $25,000. Dorey IV has responded to the civil suit in his own printed writing, he stated he “Denies any and all wrongdoing or basis for civil suite.” And, “Innocence based upon reasons to be presented at criminal trial starting 8/21/2019. Requesting to be heard after the conclusion of the criminal trial.” (He does not appear to have a civil attorney.) A murder trial in the summer of 2019 ended with the jury deadlocked 11 to 1, favoring guilt. Defendant Dorey IV is scheduled for a new murder trial in April 2020. Dorey IV continues to be held in custody for the criminal matter, he is currently held in the Vista detention facility. The widow is represented in her civil suit by Susan Hack, of the prestigious San Diego law firm Higgs Fletcher & Mack. They have requested a civil trial by jury, which is expected to last five days, perhaps in October 2020.

Middle-aged cops were alleged targets of rage
Roberto Flores has been granted a new trial, by an appellate court. Roberto Flores has chosen to act as his own attorney for this new, retrial. (This is called "pro per" by other attorneys.) This new trial was supposed to begin this week, but the accused man asked for a delay. Prosecutor Keith Watanabe stated, "He asked the judge for a continuance of 9 months. He said that because he is in custody, he has not had sufficient time in the jail law library to prepare, write his motions or investigate the witnesses who will 'prove his innocence.'" The judge has delayed the new trial until September 2020.

Lovejoy and McDavid guilty of attempted murder
Years after he survived the shooting, Greg Mulvihill was awarded more than $2 million in a civil suit he brought against Diana Lovejoy and Weldon McDavid. Some of this information can be read online, for example the attached.

Weldon McDavid shot Greg Mulvihill on secluded dirt path in Carlsbad
Just weeks ago, a judge awarded more than $2 million to Greg Mulvihill, who filed a civil suit on January 9, 2017, four months after he survived being shot. In late December 2019, judge Jacqueline Stern declared that Diana Lovejoy, now 47, and Weldon McDavid, now 52, must “jointly and severally” pay Gregory Mulvihill, now 49, more than $1 million in *damages.* The “entry of judgement” is dated Dec 18, 2019 and states in part: “…The court finds that defendant Diana Lovejoy conspired with defendant Weldon McDavid to assault and batter plaintiff Gregory Mulvihill and that on September 1, 2016 …. Furthermore, the court finds by clear and convincing evidence that defendant Diana Lovejoy and defendant Weldon McDavid acted willfully with malice and oppression …(their) conduct was a substantial factor in causing harm to plaintiff Gregory Mulvihill. (They) jointly and severally, must pay plaintiff Gregory Mulvihill on the complaint damages in the amount of $1 million, attorney’s fees in the amount of $12,681 and costs in the amount of $1,197.12.” The judge also ordered Lovejoy and McDavid to each pay “exemplary” or *punitive* damages in the amount of $500,000 each. Earlier the same day that the judge made her decision, she heard from Gregory Mulvihill, who came to the San Diego North County Superior courthouse to give sworn testimony. (Both defendants are now in California prisons; Weldon McDavid was admitted to North Kern State Prison in March 2018, he is eligible for parole in 2041; Diana Lovejoy was admitted to Chowchilla’s Women’s Prison in February 2018, she is eligible for parole in 2036.) In his argument, Mulvihill’s attorney Lionel Halsey directed the judge to consider quotes from transcripts of the 2017 criminal trial, during which Weldon McDavid testified in his own defense. Weldon admitted using an untraceable cell phone that was purchased by Lovejoy to set up the meeting with Mulvihill, that Lovejoy drove Weldon to the shooting place and then picked him up afterwards. Attorney Halsey described Weldon’s claim that he was only trying to gather video evidence to help Lovejoy in her custody battle, a “ridiculous story.”

$15,000 Halloween destruction in Rancho Santa Fe unpunished
The prosecutor tried again to bring charges against two suspects for destroying expensive Halloween decorations, and they were all in court again on January 6, 2020. A woman who reportedly saw a man smash up Halloween decorations with a baseball bat before he jumped into a waiting Prius, was able to take a photo of the red Prius with her cell phone. But she did not get a good look at the faces of the vandal nor the Prius driver, and told investigators that she would not be able to ID either man, later. Deputy DA Robert Bruce showed the new evidence, the photo taken by the passerby, to a new judge, but once again the judge declared an insufficiency of evidence and the felony vandalism charges were dismissed.

$15,000 Halloween destruction in Rancho Santa Fe unpunished
Both Katuzin and Rodriguez are due back in court on Monday, January 6, 2020. It appears the DA's office again filed charges of felony vandalism, in a new criminal complaint. Both defendants continue to be held in custody, and plead not-guilty to all charges.

Lovejoy and McDavid plead innocence before prison
This month, December 2019, Honorable judge Jacqueline Stern declared a default judgement in favor of Greg Mulvihill, against Diana Lovejoy, 47, and Weldon McDavid, 52. The convicted attempted-assassins now owe more than $2 million in punitive damages and attorneys’ fees to their intended victim, Greg Mulvihill. Mulvihill, now 49, married Diana Lovejoy in 2007, they separated in 2014. After an ugly two-year custody battle over their son, in 2016 the court judgements started going against Diana. Courts demanded Diana to start paying child support for then-four-year old child, plus Mulvihill won equal visiting rights with his son, and Diana was to pay $120,000 to finalize their divorce. About this same time Diana bought a gun, and began having conversations with Weldon McDavid, who worked at a shooting range in Oceanside, California. Greg Mulvihill was shot on September 1 2016, and he survived. In January 2017 Mulvihill filed a personal injury suit against his ex-wife and her lover. At the end of a jury trial, on November 13, 2017, Diana Lovejoy and Weldon McDavid were both declared guilty of attempted murder and other felonies. They are now in prison, working the California appellate system for their criminal case.

Beware of any woman dancing on cars
Michelle Irene Goodbrand was trying to tell the next judge her self-defense story, but her defense attorney successfully shushed her in court this week. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2020/f… http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2020/f…— February 11, 2020 2:10 p.m.
They have requested a civil trial by jury, which is expected to last five days, perhaps in October 2020. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2020/f…— February 11, 2020 12:05 p.m.

He said that because he is in custody, he has not had sufficient time in the jail law library to prepare, write his motions or investigate the witnesses who will 'prove his innocence.'" The judge has delayed the new trial until September 2020. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2020/j…— January 30, 2020 7:42 a.m.
$15,000 Halloween destruction in Rancho Santa Fe unpunished
On January 22, 2020, Katuzin made a plea deal. He admitted Penal Code 245 (a)(4), assault likely to produce great bodily injury. He expects to serve 240 days in custody, then will be on 3 years formal felony probation. Prosecutor Robert Bruce said of the co-defendant, David Rodriguez, "Rodriguez’s mental competency is being evaluated." http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2020/j…— January 22, 2020 5:27 p.m.
Lovejoy and McDavid guilty of attempted murder
Years after he survived the shooting, Greg Mulvihill was awarded more than $2 million in a civil suit he brought against Diana Lovejoy and Weldon McDavid. Some of this information can be read online, for example the attached. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2020/j…— January 10, 2020 7:46 a.m.
Attorney Halsey described Weldon’s claim that he was only trying to gather video evidence to help Lovejoy in her custody battle, a “ridiculous story.” http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2020/j…— January 9, 2020 2:17 p.m.
Deputy DA Robert Bruce showed the new evidence, the photo taken by the passerby, to a new judge, but once again the judge declared an insufficiency of evidence and the felony vandalism charges were dismissed. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2020/j… http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2020/j… http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2020/j…— January 6, 2020 2:53 p.m.
$15,000 Halloween destruction in Rancho Santa Fe unpunished
Both Katuzin and Rodriguez are due back in court on Monday, January 6, 2020. It appears the DA's office again filed charges of felony vandalism, in a new criminal complaint. Both defendants continue to be held in custody, and plead not-guilty to all charges. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2020/j… http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2020/j…— January 3, 2020 7:43 a.m.
They are now in prison, working the California appellate system for their criminal case. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2019/d…— December 29, 2019 4:23 p.m.
