Friday Night Frights Part II
Dear xians421: It sounds like you know something. I will indeed pray. John has had an uneven course, indeed. He was a very close friend of mine when I lived in San Diego years ago. But with his many troubles, he is not a regular correspondent. So I read his columns here. I like what refriedgringo says. And I don't know if Mr. Holman reads these comments, but there are many people, like myself, who wouldn't mind chipping in in some way to help him. As I say, John has had an uneven path to walk. But he is a good man at his heart and soul. I'm sad now. And worried.— October 12, 2009 5:52 p.m.
Friday Night Frights Part II
Hey, John...I hope you have a Hallowe'en Special saved up for us. You could tell us about your favorite ghost stories/horror novels, of course. If you wanted. Or share some kind of scary tale you experienced yourself. I believe that most people, when asked, have a Weird Tale or two to share. Anyway, I hope you are doing well.— October 8, 2009 11:14 p.m.
Fire Lane
Wow. That street lingo be trippin'. Actually, John B. has a great rap tune he came up with years ago, but it isn't family friendly. The ironic part is that much of rap is not family friendly either. Hmmm.— September 23, 2009 8:23 a.m.

Sorry to post twice, but your column on music made me think of hijinks from days long past: the Buddy Guy Caper, and the time you saved me from Rick Gazlay's "Cookie Night." That's what friends do!— September 9, 2009 12:44 p.m.

I'll have to give it a listen, Brother John. I don't mean to tell you your business, but I so enjoyed hearing what books "moved" you (and not in the eliminatory sense). Ditto what songs or albums (do we still call them albums?), and why? I learn a great deal from each of your columns, John. Tru dat, as the yoot say. Hope you are well....— September 9, 2009 12:43 p.m.
Brizz vs. Ninjas
I hope you are okay, John. Your story reminds me of my father's famous joke: Person A: "Jeez, were you in a fight?" Person B: "You should see the other guy." Person A: "Yeah?" Person B: "Not a mark on him." Sorry you got hurt, and I hope you fully recover soon. Haven't heard from you in a long while, and hope all is well.— September 3, 2009 5:17 p.m.
A Threat from the East
I agree that John's fiction is superb. But he has a great sense of humor about it. Years ago, when we were discussing "Wirecutter," I told him that he should do an aftershave commercial. Instantly, he came up with this whole "Mayhem: when you want to smell like all hell is breaking loose" pitch. It would have been great on television. But yes, I think the world of John's fiction.— August 26, 2009 5:33 p.m.
You Must Keep Reading
Sdaniels, I'm not disagreeing with you, but two words: Jackie Collins. Two more: Clive Cussler. Enough said. Which doesn't, again, mean you are incorrect!— August 8, 2009 11:36 p.m.
A Con Love Story
Off to Madison, Wisconsin this week, by the way. I'll say hello to the humidity and thunderstorms for you. Hope you are doing well.— August 8, 2009 11:35 p.m.
A Con Love Story
Hey, John, the actor playing McCoy is Karl-Heinz Urban. Despite the name, he is not a former Pope, nor a German SS officer. Instead, he is actor from New Zealand who has never gotten the attention his comic skills merited (other than his turns in "Xena, Warrior Princess." As for the Photoshop explanation, we all know better. I'm sure you have tailored Star Trek uniforms from each incarnation of the show. You are wearing one know, I'll wager. Brrrrr.— August 8, 2009 11:34 p.m.
