Bring In the Fences? We Don't Need No Stinking Bringing in the Fences!
Bravo. I sometimes think I'm one of the few left that can appreciate a 2-1 pitchers' duel, and apparently from the growing chant of the mob you might be too, David. Then again I grew up at the Murph with my dad griping about how easy hitters had it since they installed the chain link fence in front of the outfield wall at the old park... One thing is undeniable - pitching has carried this club for years, be they good years or bad. And power hitters cost money - more money than I can see the Padres spending in the foreseeable future. It wouldn't take a stellar offense to make the club respectable, just a somewhat passable one. So far as the NL adopting the DH...ugh. I've got no problem with inter-league play (other than that I could deal with less of the Mariners), but having pitchers hit brings so much more strategy to the table, and it's complimentary to the kind of small ball San Diego should be playing in a big yard.

Business Group Announces Prop B Opposition
Visduh - the group does seem to cater to the gay-friendly crowd, but they also claim "more than 850 businesses" as constituting their primary membership., hence the description as a "business group." You're also correct in that DeMaio's candidacy has been controversial in the LGBT community - his partner is involved in the publication of a local LGBT news outlet that has withdrawn from coverage of the mayoral campaign as a result, and the Log Cabin Republicans, a conservative LGBT group, chose to endorse straight Nathan Fletcher over gay DeMaio until Fletcher fled the party and the group was forced to rescind its endorsement.

Protesters Gather as Demolition of Farmers Market Building Begins
Thanks for the balanced and well thought-out commentary, Javajoe. Many of the protesters present yesterday say they did attempt what you're suggesting - asking Wal-Mart for local hiring, better wages/benefits, and other things that would make them welcome in the community. They also claim that Wal-Mart allowed a deadline for a response from the company to pass and then cut off all communication. [Click here][1] for that story. [1]:

Walmart "Shocked" By Neighbors' Partial Protest of Building Demolition
This was hanging from the top of the tower when I was out there this morning...along with what appears to be a shoe hanging off the 'E.'

"Shadow Inventory" Lurks Behind Housing Market
Hi samanthaalex, Banks don't just keep track of who's already delinquent on their mortgage, they have a complex set of algorithms that help them determine which properties are likely to go into foreclosure in the future, and at what rate. So if 800,000 properties not currently delinquent are expected to fall into foreclosure, it could be because forecasters have determined, for example, that there are 2.4 million houses more than $100,000 "underwater," and that roughly 1/3 of those homeowners have historically shown a likelihood of strategic default. I'm not saying this is the exact methodology used (the truth is likely much more complex), but hopefully this helps explain that just because a property isn't currently in foreclosure doesn't mean it's not at risk. I'm sorry your agent friend feels CoreLogic's analysis of the market consists of "failed logic," but would have to suggest she or he contact the firm directly to express displeasure.

State Supreme Court to Hear Labor Case Against City of Vista
Per the cited Census Bureau stats (which are admittedly dated, but such detailed info on the 2007 Economic Census wasn't readily available), $3.126 billion worth of business was done in the roofing industry in 2002, where the total payroll was about $845 million, or about 27% of costs. Painters were paid $880 million on $2.35 billion in projects, which equates to 37.4% of total costs. Although these "specialty contractors," as the Census calls them, employ workers whose pay eats more than the average percentage of total job cost (road construction is indeed near the lowest cost-to-pay ratio at 18.5%), labor doesn't approach 70% in any sector. The 22% figure cited in the original post reflects a statewide average of all construction projects covered by the Census. The suggestion that the case will draw public attention and cause demand for elimination of prevailing wages in general is an interesting one. This should especially be true in cities that have already adopted charters with the hopes of circumnavigating the prevailing wage laws and those, like El Cajon, that will soon consider whether to adopt charters themselves.

Rising Gas Prices Dampen Economic Recovery
Hmm, I'm having an issue with the link now myself. Try this:
http://www.nusinstitute.org/Research/Briefs.cfm
Unfortunately the source of their income numbers isn't identified, and from a couple other sources I've seen it seems the figures are more suited to a per-capita income level than per-consumer.

Take a Hikey, Mikey
I've got plenty to say on this, but for the most part I'm going to keep quiet and just watch the carnage ensue. But I've got to add one thing. M1_12Gage - while you seem very well-versed in radio, or at least how it pertains to Mikey, I've got to clue you in a bit on how print media works. Writers write stories. Editors pare them down to fit space requirements and make the final decisions on what content holds the most value (we get a little more leeway online, where 'ink' is free - compare the Reader blogs to what ends up in the magazine and you'll find the online articles a bit wordier). They also write headlines that are meant to draw attention to a story. Don't throw Ken under the bus if you don't like his headline for being too provocative - it was written by someone else to pique your interest in the text that follows. And it appears obvious that the editor here accomplished that goal.

Court Will Not Hear Oral Arguments Over Motion to Dismiss Medical Marijuana Case
It only works in some sort of science fiction alternative universe or in a world where my proofreading is sometimes lacking. Thanks for the catch, tedbohannon!

I've got no problem with inter-league play (other than that I could deal with less of the Mariners), but having pitchers hit brings so much more strategy to the table, and it's complimentary to the kind of small ball San Diego should be playing in a big yard.— April 30, 2012 6:50 p.m.
Business Group Announces Prop B Opposition
Visduh - the group does seem to cater to the gay-friendly crowd, but they also claim "more than 850 businesses" as constituting their primary membership., hence the description as a "business group." You're also correct in that DeMaio's candidacy has been controversial in the LGBT community - his partner is involved in the publication of a local LGBT news outlet that has withdrawn from coverage of the mayoral campaign as a result, and the Log Cabin Republicans, a conservative LGBT group, chose to endorse straight Nathan Fletcher over gay DeMaio until Fletcher fled the party and the group was forced to rescind its endorsement.— April 26, 2012 9:10 p.m.
Walmart "Shocked" By Neighbors' Partial Protest of Building Demolition

I'm sorry your agent friend feels CoreLogic's analysis of the market consists of "failed logic," but would have to suggest she or he contact the firm directly to express displeasure.— April 17, 2012 7:56 a.m.
This should especially be true in cities that have already adopted charters with the hopes of circumnavigating the prevailing wage laws and those, like El Cajon, that will soon consider whether to adopt charters themselves.— March 26, 2012 1:36 p.m.
Rising Gas Prices Dampen Economic Recovery
Hmm, I'm having an issue with the link now myself. Try this: http://www.nusinstitute.org/Research/Briefs.cfm Unfortunately the source of their income numbers isn't identified, and from a couple other sources I've seen it seems the figures are more suited to a per-capita income level than per-consumer.— March 18, 2012 4:37 p.m.

And it appears obvious that the editor here accomplished that goal.— March 15, 2012 10:38 p.m.
Court Will Not Hear Oral Arguments Over Motion to Dismiss Medical Marijuana Case
