Hold that lion: a pictorial history of the MGM logo
Near the climax of Mel Brooks' "Silent Movie" (1976), the film is rushed to the premiere, the house lights dim, the image of Sid Caesar as the Studio Chief appears on the screen in profile. Sid turns to the camera and, in a nod to Leo, lets out a cat like "Meow"...— June 27, 2013 4:17 p.m.

DVD Rentals: Frank Sinatra, from Tony Rome with love
Blink and you'll miss him: Jilly Rizzo's cameo at the very beginning of "Tony Rome" is a scream. During the making of "Rome", his then wife Mia Farrow was making a film called "A Dandy In Aspic" with Frank's "Manchurian Candidate" co-star Laurence Harvey. For publicity, several spicy pix were taken of Mia and Larry and distributed by the studio. One got picked up by a wire service and wound up in thousands of newspapers. This made Frank's blue eyes turn red. Sinatra intended "The Detective" to be a vehicle for himself and Mia... but she was off with William Castle, Roman Polanski, and Robert Evans making "Rosemary's Baby". Sinatra was pissed off and threatened Castle to have "Rosemary" ankled so Mia could be with him. Mia was set to depart but after watching a rough cut, Robert Evans told her "you're going to get an Oscar nomination." That was it. She stayed. Sinatra decided to then have an affair with his "Detective" leading lady Lee Remick! And as usual, Frankie went overboard. He told Remick he was going to divorce Farrow and in a year's time, Lee's last name would be Sinatra. Remick was so scared to break it off in person that she wrote a note and taped it to his Bel Air front door. Frank was REALLY cheesed off and decided to call Remick but his profanity laden message never got past the answering service operator who hung up on Sinatra. Throughout the production of "Lady In Cement", there were many close friends who were questioning Frank's mental state. He was distraught over his career, his 3rd marriage, and life in general. Add a Nehru jacket that he wore on one of his TV specials to look hip and you can sense the morass that Sinatra was enduring. The following year Sinatra made "Dirty Dingus Magee", a Burt Kennedy western comedy so bad people were heading to the exits, both in theaters and on airplanes. It's no wonder he decided to retire shortly thereafter. http://sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2013/jun/2…— June 20, 2013 2:18 p.m.
