Stop Water Tax goes after Maienschein and Horvath
Just for kicks, can you name any other statewide figure who is as financially compromised as DeMaio, who makes a killing shilling for those who pay his spouse? [Hale Media][4] has received over $76,000 in reported [federal][1] and [state][2] expenditures from the GOP and its candidates in just the past two years. Again, that's only what's reported—it doesn't include all the private business the machine behind him drives their way. Or is he simply the only one you continue to give a pass to, as the ends justifying the means, since it's clear [you're aware of this self-dealing][3]? Thanks, monaghan. I've been feeling like I'm in the Twilight Zone, being attacked for what should be sensible alarm at this insane overreach.— February 26, 2019 10:39 p.m.

Once again, even when identifying a good issue, DeMaio taints any support for it by association with himself. If he was half as smart as he thinks he is, he'd have figured out by now that he'd be more successful coming out in favor of whatever he's opposed.— February 26, 2019 4:16 p.m.

And when "criminal acts" can be changed to include peaceably assembling to protest, you won't have any problem with that. Got it.— February 22, 2019 1:43 p.m.

It's not an either/or choice—it's a false choice. Sorry you can't see that.— February 22, 2019 12:20 p.m.
Influential Greek lyric poet Anacreon wrote songs and hymns for the lyre
Finally, a story about a contemporary! Seriously though, we owe the tortured octaves (if not the racist stanzas) of *[The Star Spangled Banner][1]* to toothy toffs in London who got sauced to Anacreon's meters 1,500 years later. And here is the tragedy of the 21st Century commons. We are all reasonable people, and so we all should reasonably expect to never have any privacy if ever we set foot outdoors. Hell, with the Internet of Things, many growing up now will think we shouldn't even expect it indoors! I wonder if we'll all still be so reasonable once [deepfake tech][1] is perfected, knowing that [only the State is allowed][2] to hold or release footage when and how they will, to allege whatever we've "done"? San Diego's street lights that spy
Guess Kev-boy is only incompetent when it comes to taking care of the little people. This article shows how frighteningly efficient and quick his rollout of our surveillance city-state has been. It's unacceptable that $30M of taxpayer money has been weaponized against us, and that public servants believe they're free to continue to spy and stonewall. This entire program needs to be dismantled and everyone involved put on a watch list. (Only half joking about that second part.) Thank you, *Reader*, for this story. I'm donating to the ACLU right after I hit post.— February 20, 2019 10:30 a.m.
Gonzalez surrenders private prison money, gets cash from Ari Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell
There's only one political party in San Diego: the Wealthy. And they own most everyone, Democrat or Republican, of every race, gender, ethnicity or orientation. Sooner rather than later; too rarely never at all.— February 11, 2019 9:59 p.m.
St. Paul’s Above It All
Sigh. Dowdy Dimbiddy once more unto the breach for his own relevance. It also wasn't the appointed-developers planning commission that was against this, but the elected members of the local community planning group. I believe Geranium would be willing to admit mistyping "article" for "column," but you admit no excuse or apology for all your straw-manned posts.— February 9, 2019 10:31 p.m.
