Secrecy shrouds Faulconer’s SoccerCity favors
You'll get no argument from me. And as I said in an earlier post, I'm also getting déjà vu of Liberty Station from the same rogues gallery and flim-flam promises here.— March 10, 2017 3:44 p.m.
Secrecy shrouds Faulconer’s SoccerCity favors
Who would have thought I'd ever agree with Manchester! This site is producing a greater than usual stink of corruption, and it's not coming from the river. Kev-Boy is a small man whose graft exceeds his reach, and needs his grubby hands slapped hard.— March 10, 2017 1:01 p.m.
U-T gushes over Faulconer event
If we had even a remotely competent IRS or state Attorney General, 1 San Diego would be revealed as the scam and slush fund it is. There's still only [one tax return posted (for 2014)][1], and despite all the evidence of how it's run, the mayor and his cronies are claiming that it's a public charity not a private foundation. Might want to ask then why only the mayor's personal friends are members on the board. But worst of all, this return shows that almost all the money they did spend ($48,000) was on "professional fees and other payments to independent contractors" and the rest on rent and a website. In other words, their only activity was self-promotion. The only turkey being served by 1 San Diego is Fowlconer, and it's being served 24/7/365. He said he wasn't suicidal is why
Forget it, folks. This is the same Bill Gore who said Rebecca Zahau committed suicide even though her hands and feet were tied. The man has no conscience or credibility, and thinks taxpayers matter only as open wallets for settling all the wrongful deaths under his watch.— March 7, 2017 3:44 p.m.
Historic elderly home to become apartments
"Subject to adjustment closer to completion." By the time they open, the 1-br's will be $2K.— March 7, 2017 1:41 p.m.
Brigantine plans for former Anthony's site hit big snag
The Coastal Commission as a state agency has more power than the Port, a history of jurisdiction that the Port is strangely trying to deny, and proof that "public access" will be at the mercy of a private business (limited by their hours of operation and right to refuse service). This can mean only one thing: the Port folks must have got a lot of under-table money and so need to make a show of fighting the CCC on this.— March 7, 2017 noon
Historic elderly home to become apartments
Once again, existing affordable housing gets devoured by a vulture investor. I can't believe they're going to get this property for only $6 million. Charging $2,000 a month on 130 units will pay that off in less than two years. Meanwhile renters will have to pay more than 50% of their income just for a roof over their heads, and our elderly have lost yet another facility. Why in hell aren't the Carmelites trying to sell this property to the Housing Commission, so that it can continue to serve the less well off?— March 7, 2017 10:27 a.m.
The crosswalk cover-up on Canon Street
This case is a microcosm of all that is corrupt and disgusting about San Diego government. Elected leaders refuse to exert even a minimal amount of effort to protect or serve citizens; and career bureaucrats make violating The Brown Act *a matter of policy* to avoid the very accountability that law is intended to ensure. San Diegans need to wake up: if those in power feel safe from personal consequence in committing all the violations of law and morality detailed in this article over literal dead bodies, it's not possible to believe them acting fairly or justly about anything.— March 1, 2017 10:59 a.m.
Police chief doesn't bite on traffic-stop study
Only in alt-fact Amerika can anyone call "requirements for officers to obtain written consent for non-compulsory searches and warrants for DNA collection" a threat to *citizens*. What all 'law and order' types have in common is the *demand* that free people sacrifice liberty for security, either because of ever more nebulous threats or, as JustWondering would have it, just to make things easier for the police. Sorry, but I am not a *subject*, and I refuse to suffer well-off straight white men dismissing evidence that the system rigged for their benefit.— February 28, 2017 11:12 a.m.
Lobbyists in Mission Valley land rush
Not surprised McMillin is involved in this, given the skill they demonstrated for bait-and-switch in developing Liberty Station as a high-end enclave rather than promised affordable housing. I guarantee, without some kind of public oversight or lawsuit, this will be the biggest giveaway of municipal public land for private benefit this century.— February 23, 2017 10:13 a.m.
