Taxpayers ante up for Faulconer's political spinners
Typical Kev-boy reasoning: *Why spend taxpayer money on actually fixing things, when I can waste twice as much on appearing to fix them!*— November 1, 2017 11:55 a.m.
Old bike-sharing company, new plan
Judging from the picture, this DecoBike station *would* be in the commercial zone. Sidewalks next to commercial vehicle parking are where their loading and unloading happens—not the busy streets on the other side. Being willfully obtuse about the impacts of his decisions, misrepresenting valid criticism, and making snarky comments illustrate that Genovese is yet another petty bureaucrat with just enough power to believe his own self-importance. More proof (if any needed) that "public servant" has become an oxymoron.— October 28, 2017 3:30 p.m.
Bicyclists vs. Civita residents re road
"Our positions on policy matters are based on their merits and our organizational mission, which does not always align with the desires of our donors." Thanks, Colin—I needed a good laugh. But seriously, he can't name one instance where Circulate has acted against its developer donors. Because in fact, that's the only reason Circulate exists: to be their [astroturf front group][1] to counter actual grassroots opposition. Manchester’s Navy Broadway complex: hurry up and wait
That's only true if you believe he's really going to step away from his sole ownership business. Dougie Jr. will run everything by Pappy and no one in the current Administration will bat an eye at the conflict of interest. And you can be sure that the perk in this for Pappy is being able to demand everyone for the rest of his life address him as "Mr. Ambassador."— October 20, 2017 9:44 a.m.
Mission Beach's last big chunk
Marcela Escobar-Icky scores another kill in her vendetta against all of San Diego [for being punished doing Sanders' dirty work][1]. [1]: https://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2007/aug/30/m…— October 13, 2017 5:55 p.m.
Wedding for 619 and 858 area codes imminent
"In a traditional area code overlay, a new area code is added to the existing geographic area served by the area code in which numbers are depleting. In this case, instead of adding a new area code to the 619 area code region, the CPUC eliminated the boundaries...." So rather than the CPUC do what should "traditionally" be done, which would require them to actually do some work and create a new area code map, they just lump everyone together and make everyone making every call have to press an additional 4 buttons. Guess whatever leaves them more time to [collude on screwing over ratepayers][1]? [1]:https://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2015/nov/1…— October 13, 2017 9:11 a.m.
Public relations hiring binge
So Kris Michell left the helm of the Downtown Partnership simply out of the goodness of her heart to help a friend? Giving up over $200,000 a year in a cushy position to [take a pay-cut][1] and endless flak as Kev-boy's flack? More like a rat from a sinking ship: after [years of delay tactics][2], Cory Briggs' lawsuit on behalf of SanDOG [to take down the Business Improvement Districts][3] is finally set for trial and likely to win. No doubt she thought it'd be better to leave now than get canned next February. Bernie Sanders pays National City campaign bill
Even before the Secret Service couldn't afford to offset legitimate campaign security costs because now they're paying [$137,000 to rent golf carts][1] and [$300,000 on trips to Aspen for Trump's shlumps][2], they should have taken care of this bill. Never heard of Hillary or any other main party candidates not getting reimbursed for expenses like this, so it's hard not to see this as a bipartisan effort to punish outsiders. Common man Scott
Neoliberal thinking like this is what has made Democrats the minority at almost every level of elected government in most every state and the nation. Unless the Dems stop trying to be "Republican Lite" and become the party of social responsibility again, they will continue to sink into irrelevance.— October 5, 2017 3:46 p.m.
Viral funding
Thanks for keeping on this story, Matt. As [I've written before][1], when you compare the many hundreds of thousands of dollars in contributions taken in versus the paltry amounts spent on activities other than promoting Faulconer, it's clear this isn't a charity: it's a laundry for influence-seekers to make campaign contributions and deduct them tax-free. If the CA Attorney General or the IRS ever get involved, I can guarantee this gravy train will run off the rails and hopefully with it the careers of all involved.
