Irwin Jacobs' $9.9 million drives granddaughter’s House hopes
Why, when Davis left her literal protégé, Todd Gloria, stuck sitting at the kiddie table in all this, [Georgette Gómez][1] thinks she's going to have a snowball's chance against Sara Jacobs, is beyond comprehension. It reminds me of the [old "Demotivational" poster][2]: *This is going to end in disaster, and you have no one to blame but yourself.* [1]: https://twitter.com/SDGeorgette/status/1171613071… [2]: http://bestdemotivationalposters.com/overconfiden…— September 11, 2019 8:08 p.m.
The China effect on San Diego's recycling
What's the point of charging a "cash return value" for every bottle and can if there's no cash or return or value? So much for California being a green leader.— August 27, 2019 10:21 a.m.
Drug War reparations tanked by San Diego's city attorney
It's reasoning like this that calls into question Mara Elliott's (legal) judgment. As the other cities show, there's nothing stopping San Diego from allocating money from its general fund to pay for this kind of program as it does all others. Instead, Elliott makes the straw-man argument that it can't be earmarked as a standing expenditure tied directly to the proceeds of this one particular revenue source. She doesn't admit that an "equity fund" can be considered and amended and approved or denied year after year like every other line item. If Elliott is so concerned about the legality of automatic appropriations, then she should insist the city go back to approving **all** program administration contracts annually rather than just once every five years, as is now done for the parking and business improvement districts. But then that would inconvenience the powers that be in another direction—and she's nothing if not transactional.— August 15, 2019 10:44 a.m.
Encanto slated for about 8000 low-income apartments
I'm sure we could count on the YIMBY crowd to attack the local community reps as usual—if this was happening anywhere they're paid to care about.— July 31, 2019 6:30 p.m.
GOP launches right-ward San Diego News Desk
"Vacuum filler"? More like birdcage liner. The "About Us" is a legal disclaimer: *[San Diego News Desk] dedicate ourselves to being efficient in delivering the news. As a project of the Republican Party of San Diego County, we work with contributors, newsmakers, and editors to be a news source you can depend on....Even though we are a project of the Republican Party of San Diego County, the views expressed in articles and on the site are not the official views held by the Republican Party of San Diego County.* Translation: "Even though we're responsible for everything you see here, we're not responsible for anything you see here. So we'll routinely commit libel, yet hide behind 'freedom of the press' to pretend we're immune from prosecution." Let's hope this embarrassingly public display of [self-ass-kissing][1] ends before any horses or children are frightened. [1]: https://www.sandiegonewsdesk.com/2019/07/presiden…— July 31, 2019 6 p.m.
Ward-Faulconer parking plan to Adams Ave. and Mid City groups: drop dead
Will "site staff" inform me what violation I allegedly made, so I can rephrase my otherwise popular comment?— July 16, 2019 10:23 a.m.
Ward-Faulconer parking plan to Adams Ave. and Mid City groups: drop dead
This article makes it clear that so many are in the pocket of their developer pimps, pols like Ward and Gloria can openly tell their constituents to go have intercourse with themselves—and count on their fellow stable whores in the news orgs and lobby shops [to spin it][1] as a PSA for colorectal screenings. San Diego's Presidio is crumbling
What a surprise. Kev-boy had at least five years heads up, with multiple warnings along the way, but didn't bother to do anything until literally days before the big date. Still the feckless sloppy frat boy, thinking he can cram a semester of study in the night before the big exam. And of course other politicians happy to let him provide them cover for not forcing the issue. And "by the end of the year" will be another broken promise, lost in the 2020 electoral game of musical chairs. This is why we can't have nice things—even when they're handed to us free.— July 10, 2019 2 p.m.
Streetlight spy shakeup hits San Diego city hall
Again, another postcard-perfect snapshot of what's wrong with this city: we are being run by a blue-suit mafia. The only qualification that matters is proving loyalty to the higher ups—with bonus points for maintaining an appearance otherwise. Intelligence, ability, or responsibility are valued only so long as they don't get in the way of keeping the gravy train rolling. This explains the vast incompetence alloyed with aggrieved sensitivity displayed by almost every "public servant" with which one is unfortunate to have to interact. If ever there was a competent federal investigation, I doubt few politicos in town would escape being taken down in a RICO indictment.— July 9, 2019 7:40 p.m.
State auditor attacks SDSU for dearth of student parking
Many of us [said from the get-go][1] the Mission Valley land grab was going to be a circus of excrement whomever grabbed it. Visduh is absolutely right: SDSU has already admitted it's not going to need all the space, and openly intends to develop the remainder for profit. The only thing unusual is the state auditor cosigning for the critics. Guess it's just a matter of time before the county DA and city attorney pick up the ball and run with it—in the opposite direction.
