DeMaio looking beyond the gas tax repeal
The problem with DeMaio is that, like Trump, he's only [into politics][1] as another way to make money. Which might not cause much of a problem, except he can't help having his husband [in on every grift][2]. Case in point: Minutes before this story was published, Kimberlin Brown for Congress [breathlessly posted][3], "I am so happy to announce that our campaign has received the endorsement of the Chairman of Reform California and the leader of the statewide Gas Tax Repeal Campaign, Carl DeMaio! #TeamKimberlin" However, the *Bold and the Beautiful* ingenue neglects to mention [she's paid $16,000 the past three months][4] to [Carl's spouse][5] for work on her campaign. It's this blatant conflict of interest that continues to cast doubt on every issue and office he touches. Grandpa Irwin’s TV money
...With all the bias and ignorance you can muster. Interesting how anyone who disagrees with you is *always* illogical and benighted. Yet you never provide any objective facts or links to evidence to support your "opinions," simply your say-so; and just repeat what you've written over and over again in the belief that wearing others out makes you "right." In a nutshell, you are incapable of engaging with others here without adolescent snark or personal attacks. It would be deserving of our pity, were it not marked by such monstrous self-regard.— May 5, 2018 11:28 a.m.

Nor are you required to failingly retort and gainsay what I write. Safe to say we'd both prefer if you didn't read mine.— May 4, 2018 5:53 p.m.

Your "arguments" are always a master class in [fatuousness][1]. How we miss the days when you wrote [your own articles][2], rather than clog the comments section of others' stories. Unbelievable. Can't those in favor of Sara Jacobs realize their support is no different from the celebrity worship that brought us Trump? The belief that proximity to fame and fortune is an adequate substitute for political experience and prior performance is pernicious to representative government. But by all means, let's let darling Sara vault into the U.S. Congress based solely on the accident of her birth. I'm sure the 29-year-old intern will eventually get all the on-the-job experience she needs after a couple of terms to finally be qualified for office by 2022. And really, don't the constituents of the 49th *owe* it to *her*?— May 4, 2018 2:30 p.m.
GOP's Facebook king boosts Cate and Zapf
*"If Hillary Clinton had won the election as well as the media’s coronation, would we even be debating a new regulatory scheme for social-media advertising...?"* Convenient how he tries to gloss over that the [data hijack of 50 million people][1], the [online fester of neo-Nazis][2], and [active measures by Russia in other democracies][3] all were happening before the 2016 election. But even then, his argument boils down to, *Since we *know* Hillary wouldn't do anything about this, neither should Trump!* Once again, being a "conservative" just means "whatever serves the con." BofI Federal has ties to Jared Kushner
Given this and other stories linked to it, it appears BofI is a bank in name only: it's really a laundry for shady people's dirty money.— May 1, 2018 12:59 p.m.
San Diego State slick magazine touts Mission Valley plan
I've said it [before][1] and I'll say it again—putting the fate of this property on the ballot is a violation of state law. [California Code 54222][2] is crystal clear: "Any local agency disposing of surplus land shall send, prior to disposing of that property, a written offer to sell or lease the property as follows," and what follows is the land should first be offered "for the purpose of developing low- and moderate-income housing" then next "for park and recreational purposes or open-space purposes." (And before anyone objects, the city is considered an agency: "Powers and duties common to cities, counties, and other agencies.") There's been zero effort by the city to follow the law and use this as an opportunity to relieve the housing crisis everyone is shouting about. And the result will be whichever side loses will rightfully sue the city for violating the law, nothing will happen to this site for a decade, and we'll all end up poorer for it. Barrio Logan election do-over
*"Todd will do everything he can to help the Barrio Logan community regardless of his title – whether that be [as] assemblymember, mayor, or citizen. He believes what happened to them was disgraceful and they deserve better."* Who does he think he's kidding?!? Todd [sabotaged][1] the Uptown Community Plan Update, shot down every recommendation made by that local planning group, and at the last minute pushed through [a plan tailored to his developer donors][2]. Anyone in Barrio Logan who believes Todd is going to treat them any "better" than his actual constituents "deserved," is only in for further disappointment.
