Bryan Pease and the OB People's Co-op
Clearly Pease's self-image is tied up with the Co-op, as it's [the second thing mentioned][1] in his candidate's statement. So this story is very revealing of his character when he doesn't get his way: He fraudulently altered the wording of a petition, invalidating himself; then sued when he wasn't given a pass for his behavior. And even after having a judge tell him he's wrong, he maintains not getting what he wants is "an injustice" and no price or hardship too much for his opponents to bear. I agree with JustWondering: Pease is [a bully][2] who can't let go of a grudge, so there's little doubt he'd abuse elected office to pursue this and other vendettas. Why vacancies in Hillcrest?
City planners and the community long called for the Hillcrest core to be [designated a historic district][1]. Nicholls worked with lobbyists [to kill it][2]; and now we're seeing the results. Studies have consistently shown the environmental, social, and economic [benefits of historic districts][3]. The Gaslamp certainly has density: but if it didn't have character, no one would go there. That should be the model for Hillcrest—not UTC. Why vacancies in Hillcrest?
It's a poor musician that blames his instrument. Nicholls continually blames the neighborhood for not being as wealthy and densely populated as he would like. But as this article shows, the facts don't back up his constant complaining. [Little Italy][1] has almost the same population as Hillcrest but an average household income that's $6,800 less. Only 1,000 people live in [The Gaslamp][2] and 13,000 in [East Village][3]. And despite [North Park][4] being over twice the size and population of Hillcrest, it has a average household income that's $20,000 less. But what Little Italy and The Gaslamp and East Village and North Park do have in common is a commitment to historic preservation—the very thing Nicholls wrongly claims Hillcrest has too much of—as an engine for economic growth. Well that, and "advocates" who don't go around trash-talking the locals. Hillcrest was one of the [top 10 neighborhood in the country][5] when Nicholls took over its business association. Where he needs to look for what has gone wrong is in a mirror. President pardons San Diegan D’Souza
Agreed. That's why I called him "Donnie The Don," as his behavior is that of a mafia capo. He's unbefitting any elected office, least of all the presidency.— June 1, 2018 10:34 a.m.
President pardons San Diegan D’Souza
I'm sure everyone who pleads guilty to a crime feels they've been "treated very unfairly by our government." I'm also sure that this kind of validation will only embolden someone who is as [reality challenged][1] and [reckless][2] as D'Souza to go on to commit more crimes. "Denialesh" better make sure they're federal in nature and committed quickly, if he expects Donnie The Don to bail him out again [1]: https://www.salon.com/2016/06/02/dinesh_dsouza_re… [2]: http://www.vanityfair.com/news/2015/04/dinesh-dso…— May 31, 2018 1:15 p.m.
Water polluted by tossed bikes
Hi Visduh. I've mentioned the data mining angle before [here][1] and [here][2]. And again, [this article][3] is the best summary of what's going on and who's profiting from it. [Hint: the dockless bike companies are all Chinese owned or majority invested.] [1]: https://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2017/dec/27/r… [2]: https://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2018/apr/04/r… [3]: https://www.bikebiz.com/news/data-mining-is-why-b…— May 29, 2018 12:59 p.m.
Despite Jack in the Box's hypnotic tacos
No, I did not; but thanks. Always follow the money—and the links. Since we're on it, Edgar Allan Poe (a man beaten up by the market if ever there was) had [words to say][1] as well: *I'll tell you a plan for gaining wealth, Better than banking, trade or leases — Take a bank note and fold it up, And then you will find your money in creases! This wonderful plan, without danger or loss, Keeps your cash in your hands, where nothing can trouble it; And every time that you fold it across, 'Tis as plain as the light of the day that you double it!* [1]: https://www.poemhunter.com/poem/epigram-for-wall-…— May 22, 2018 9:09 p.m.
Despite Jack in the Box's hypnotic tacos
Aha, a topic for a [reference trifecta][1]: *leverage is/ as leverage does/ increasing the fizz/ as well as the buzz* *it has no emotion/ keeping no friends/ it's not magic potion/ just what a bank lends* *treat it with caution/ do treat it with care/ else abusing its fractions/ might cause you to swear* *'course when in a bull/ it will certainly yield/ buckets more full/ wiv wotever you've stealed* *but...if in a bear/ be you levered and long/ the loss that you'll wear/ makes you ev'r more wrong* [1]: http://nihoncassandra.blogspot.com/2008/01/levera…— May 22, 2018 8:01 p.m.
City board to SDG&E: Drop dead
[Sempra has filed][1] that it's directly lobbying the city council and the mayor regarding "Energy procurement, emissions reduction proposals, and community choice aggregation," and seeking an outcome of "Neutral." At the same time, they've [hired the so-called Responsible Solutions LLC][2] (and the chair of Kev-boy's personal "charity," [Lani Lutar][3]) to lobby to ensure "Evaluation of Community Choice Aggregation...takes into account new and pending regulatory and legislative changes such as the exit fee." In other words: heads they win, tails we lose. Voice needs an editor; Chula Vista mayor needs hotelier cash
Regarding the *VOSD* position, their description should also stipulate: *Be able to slant every story toward a pro-developer angle or other donors' expectations*. Anyone who has read them long enough knows it's crap for *VOSD* [to claim that][1], "As a nonprofit, we are obligated to pursue a mission, not deliver returns to investors, who might earn more if writers chased [quarterback controversies][2] or [salacious criminal mysteries][3]." The idea that somehow they are not conflicted and free of ulterior motives since they have a handful of policy-minded donors wanting espousal rather than hundreds of commercial advertisers wanting exposure reeks of guilty conscience.
