Ex-Lincoln High soccer coach arrested in Orange County
*A source close to that case says a San Diego police detective vigorously investigated and pressed for criminal prosecution but deputy DA Trisha Amador decided not to.* "Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is enemy action." DA Summer Stephan has consistently demonstrated zero effort to press charges for sexual assault—even involving minors. Add this to her pattern of giving a free pass to politically connected corruption and other malignant behavior by the powerful, and it's clear San Diegans cannot afford to let her "serve" in any office.— November 26, 2019 11:12 a.m.
Faulconer staffer Greg Block flees through revolving door
So citizens can rightfully expect a moratorium on Laing's company or any of its associates lobbying the city until no earlier than November 2020? Or will they be given the usual chummy pass by their fellow insiders, who always know better yet still do their worst?— November 20, 2019 11:30 a.m.
Clan linked to yesterday's Mexico slayings once rocked San Diego
Gosh, Trump intentionally mischaracterize an internal blood feud killing by right-wing kooks to further his demonizing of Mexicans and other foreigners? Hope the national press follows up on this story and exposes what really happened.— November 6, 2019 12:22 p.m.
Nick Cannon-Jason Crawford sex trafficking probe closed
Both Summer Stephan and Mara Elliott have shown they're not just incompetent, but morally derelict and criminally negligent in executing the duties of their offices. If only the rest of the local media would quit fawning over them, voters might realize just how badly we're being screwed and never elect them again.— October 29, 2019 10:47 a.m.
Abortion and carpetbagging dominate 50th Congressional seat debate
Since DeMaio is as [wrong about Planned Parenthood][1] as he is everything, let's all hope he never again gets elected to vote on funding for it or on anything else. [1]: https://www.dailydot.com/irl/planned-parenthood-f…— October 21, 2019 2:20 p.m.
San Diego students required to take ethnic studies
I agree. The problem with setting up stand-alone course(s) to address gaps in the core curriculum is that it leaves untouched the dominant narrative while further marginalizing by implication. If a subject matter is so important it deserves incorporation, then really incorporate it rather than set up a "separate but equal" alternative that undermines the purpose from the outset.— October 18, 2019 10:58 a.m.
Summer Stephan untangles herself from San Diego Republicans
I'm sure this is just the first move in the Lincoln Club "rebranding" itself as simply a group of concerned conservatives with no party affiliation. Too bad local Republicans don't like the stink on themselves; but trying to blame Trump for why they smell doesn't fool anyone familiar with their dirty politics.— October 15, 2019 1:34 p.m.
Ben Hueso paws greased by payroll loan company
In the collapse of the GOP as a viable electoral force, Hueso has joined the growing number of Dems who rent their party affiliation to push Rep policies. Time for voters to realize affluence will always find a way to influence, and call out pols who wouldn't be elected if they were open about their collaboration.— October 2, 2019 3 p.m.
No-name no-bid contract cost San Diego millions, city auditor charges
Sadly, I think you are correct. I'll admit I wasn't sure about Elser's appointment, especially following so outstanding a truly public servant as Luna. If the city council had good sense, they would welcome such independence in exposing a crooked go-around them, and urge to make him permanent. Ah, but since when has the city council had good sense?— September 12, 2019 8 p.m.
Gloria backers borrow name of Faulconer’s dubious charity
No honor among thieves...— September 11, 2019 8:30 p.m.
