Romance of the beach fire tainted
"Mrs. M"? So you not only assumed monaghan's gender, but did so specifically to use women's identity as an insult. So much for your [feminist credentials][1]. [1]: https://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2018/feb/28/r…— July 7, 2018 11:05 a.m.

My criticism on the topic of this story was not sarcastic. Neither is my suggestion that you volunteer yourself rather than draft others into service. It might even provide you with actual content to write.— July 6, 2018 5:29 p.m.
A well-timed contribution of special interest
"But insiders say Faulconer and his allies have no choice but to work the phones to come up with enough money to pay for signatures..." Of course he has a choice: he could choose to cut bait and do the actual work of the job he was elected, rather than keep pursuing another hare-brained scheme to enrich the 1%. But then, that might require Kev-boy to exert himself beyond hefting rocks glasses at the yacht club.— July 6, 2018 2:33 p.m.

It's an [intentional figure of speech][1]—as should be obvious by its use alongside "civic misleaders" and "development disservices." But thank you once again for derailing a thread with an inane comment the only purpose of which is to direct attention to yourself and away from the topic. (Just to be clear, the previous sentence is an example of sarcasm.) [1]: https://www.thoughtco.com/what-is-enallage-1690647— July 6, 2018 1:16 p.m.

It's too easy to write this off as one more reason why we can't have nice things. But we know garbage people do garbage things. That's why we pay taxes for the city to conduct law enforcement. For parks and wrecks to only have four rangers covering [26 miles of coastline][1] is yet another example of San Diego being "condemned by neglect" by our civic misleaders—along with development disservices [begging off code enforcement][2]. So right now, no public works agency is able to work with the police, because the police must be kept free to respond immediately to private calls from ritzy ZIP Codes. When San Diego fat cats run out of cash
As also recalled [in these pages][1], Unruh was famously quoted admonishing a newly elected official who took umbrage at his open acceptance of lobbyists' largesse: "If you can't eat their food, drink their booze, screw their women and then vote against them, you have no business being up here." Shame we don't have politicians with principles anymore. [1]: https://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2015/mar/12/t…— July 3, 2018 10:15 a.m.
Angry PB residents don’t like mayor’s plan
While I'm inclined to agree with Curry that the best way to deal with these is to enforce existing laws (which says they are illegal as-is), I know there's too much money being thrown around by the AirBnB crowd for them not to get there way. What would help is to hear specifics about Coats's proposals. Other than seeking "compromise" with the mayor's office, there are no details. I know space is limited in an article, so is there a link to the Working Group's recommendations? Finally, Kev-boy referring to vacation rentals as "short term residence occupancy" is about as Orwellian and misleading a neologism I've ever seen. It would be more accurate and honest to call them "long term housing diversion."— June 29, 2018 10:19 a.m.

I can see above the fold of the new *U-T* now: TRUMP PLANS MORE OPIOIDS, TARIFF IMMIGRATION SENATE SUMMER LEAVE NO RECESS CUP OF WORLD—FOUR YEAR HAPPY SAD TIME SURVEY: FOR MANY, SEX?— June 27, 2018 10:40 a.m.
Who cares about 40th and El Cajon?
I hate having to [repeat myself][1], but peremptorily selling this or any public land to the highest bidder is a violation of state law. [California Code 54222][2] clearly states, "Any local agency disposing of surplus land shall send, prior to disposing of that property, a written offer to sell or lease the property as follows," and what follows is the land should first be offered "for the purpose of developing low- and moderate-income housing." What is CivicSD if not a local agency? Do Kev-boy and his cronies at CivicSD honestly think [a city council resolution][3] supersedes state law? Or are those involved shoving this through as quickly as possible, knowing once the sale is done, they'll be long gone and only the taxpayers will pay for the legal fallout? [1]: https://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2018/apr/25/r… [2]: https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/codes_di… [3]: http://docs.sandiego.gov/council_reso_ordinance/r…— June 15, 2018 1:23 p.m.
City lowers the bar
Unbelievable. So not only will these violations *never* be enforced, the city is begging off enforcing *over **thirty** others*—leaving just nine they'll bother themselves with. Bet everyone in the private sector wishes they could simply decide to do only one-fifth of their job requirements and still get paid the same. At this point, they might as well rename the "[Get It Done][1]" app to "Get Over It." [1]: https://www.sandiego.gov/get-it-done— June 8, 2018 1:44 p.m.
