Indian bilker
As deserving as the Indians are the "Californios", Mexican and Spanish settlers who were guaranteed continued land ownership and citizenship after the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, but had their lands stolen during the Gold Rush. Why can't their descendants open casinos? The larger question is, are the descendants of people wronged over 150 years ago entitled to compensation and special status?— June 16, 2014 9:50 p.m.
Indian bilker
Yes, Mr. Volen should pay a price for his crimes. Ironically, this is a case of a leech sucking blood from a lamprey. Neither is good for society, and the victim hides behind phony sovereign nation status while using American legal protection. Shut the casinos down or let anyone open one. Lets have real equality.— June 14, 2014 8:24 p.m.
Indian bilker
Let him go, his crime occured in a Sovereign Nation. Let their legal system handle it. What goes around comes around.— June 14, 2014 8:55 a.m.
Fizzle for shizzle in La Jolla
Most of the chemicals produced by fireworks are nitrates. Fertilizer! Good for the environment, and your soul. Don't be a spoilsport, blow stuff up!— June 12, 2014 11:27 p.m.
Minimum-wage hike may have legal impacts
If the cost of my lunch is going up, so is my labor rate. Pass it on!— June 11, 2014 8:01 p.m.
You name it, moneyman
Has anyone figured out the cost of changing maps to keep up with the namings? What if emergency services didn't get the memo and don't know where to go? Just pick one name for each location and stick with it. Let the rich buy benches and fountains.— June 6, 2014 1:05 p.m.
An end to the Dead End party in San Carlos
Would they prefer it to happen in a park? These things have to happen somewhere, why push them further from cops and hospitals? Cheaper to put in trash cans than to drive them into the canyons. I my day it was Fiesta Island, the crazyness could be contained.— May 25, 2014 11:06 a.m.
Water sprinklers get their man
Gramma better get a caretaker, young Jared will be eating "subs" in jail for a while.— May 1, 2014 5:41 p.m.
SD-Carlsbad particle pollution among nation’s worst
Many counties inherit smog produced in counties to the west. Much of Central CA gets its smog from the Bay Area, as Imperial County gets yours. Spend a morning watching dawn break from Knoxvill/Illeana St at the St. Mary's parking lot and see the lovely smog blooms from the north and south meet at sea, and later blow East, Just because your garbage blows away does not mean it is no longer exixts, it just went into someone else's yard. Clean it up, coastals.— May 1, 2014 8:33 a.m.
Men knocked dead
These guys keep going back to prison because they enjoy the sex.— April 29, 2014 9:42 p.m.
