So lets respond to Jims claims in his campaign website
1. 3 schools nationally ranked. What about the 75% of district schools in Program Improvement?
2. Believes in local education control - unfortunately too much. He gave too much control and did not do his job in overseeing Jesus Gandera and Ed Brand as both wasted millions in unpopular program cuts, diversion of funds into pet projects, wasting and borrowing of Prop O funds and Mello Roos funds.
3. Supports visual and performing arts - but did not support ROP or adult ed
4. Stopped mello roos taxes in 2013 - this is an absolute joke! He voted for increases every year and only questioned in 2013 when community members began to vehemently question mello roos spending at board meetings and when prior CFO Alt Alt recommended they not be increased.
5. School bond transparency - another absolute joke! I was on the bond committee for 4 years and he did and questioned nothing as far as repeated bond program change orders, SGI exorbitant billing, etc. He approved every change order submitted by contractors that contributed to his campaign, and approved all of SGI's invoices. The bond committee should get credit for the transparency not Jim!
6. Stopped bond fund borrowing - another joke! He approved it every year until the community reached a fever pitch on this practice. He sat through numerous years of this practice occurring and did nothing until the community repeatedly questioned this practice!!
7. Supports a forensic audit - such a liar! He did not support it as numerous community members called for one over the years even while he was President and had the authority to do so! Now he does ?! Hmmm, I don't believe it!!
8. Opposes open enrollment - baloney he does! He let Brand do it for years even as we appealed to him as Board President to stop it! He never opposed it and never even commented on it even with his daughter at Eastlake High feeling the effects.
This man is not genuine is his campaign claims. Like I once told Ed Brand in person and at a board meeting, your actions speak truer than your words. Jim, same goes for you! Your campaign claims are false, misleading and do not represent your actions on the board for all those years. Your colors have not changed. You had your chance and you let the community down.
Do not vote for Jim Cartmill!

San Diego stadium, convention center lies you will hear
As the rich keep getting richer and the downtown developers keep getting their taxpayer funded improvements, here in the South Bay deterioration continues at a rapid pace. Otay Mesa and San Ysidro (92154 and 92173) are in the City of San Diego, but city leadership treats them as if they are in Tijuana. Don I agree the City has alot of needs, and another stadium and expanded convention center that will sit idle for a majority of the year are not high priorities. I hope the City residents wake up, look around their neighborhoods, and realize that basic infrastructure and public safety are much more important than more monuments for the rich!!— September 24, 2014 12:10 p.m.
These are the monsters, Mayor Cox
Susan and others, you mention Jim Cartmill. He is running in area 3. Take a look at his campaign web page and what he allegedly supports and endorses. http://www.jimcartmill2014.com— September 22, 2014 7:41 a.m.
Closed for legislation
Too bad Cory Briggs, Donna Frye and their group for Open Government doesnt look at the Sweetwater Union High School District. This district has been doing this type of stuff and more for 10+ years. Its probably because their is no money in it for them like their is in suing the City o San Diego.— September 13, 2014 2:21 p.m.
Busy week at Sweetwater school district
Sandra is definitely one of the snake heads. She has been part of Brand and Gandera'S cabinets. Have not seen nor heard her stand up for what is right. She seems ok in doing business the Sweetwater way.— September 10, 2014 7:22 a.m.
Busy week at Sweetwater school district
Bystander very well put! Along with a new board and superintendent we also need new leadership. This means an entirely new cabinet. The only way to eliminate the Sweetwater way is to cut the head off. This means Tom Calhoun, Karen Michel, Ramon Leyba and other executives need to go! They are too ingrained with the corrupt, lack of honesty and transparency that is the Sweetwater way.— September 6, 2014 11:06 a.m.
Sweetwater cash cow improperly milked
It is clear that the current administration and trustees see the schools not as a place of learning for our students, but profit centers or money makers. Otherwise, there would not be such a blatant disregard for student needs. This paragraph says it all: “The district has numerous agreements for cellular facilities on various school sites. The license agreements require a lump sum initial payment and monthly ‘rent’ payments. Since these funds are generated from real estate assets [schools], the revenue from these agreements will go to the Special Reserve Fund [Fund 40]….” Schools are viewed as real estate assets?! Just simply amazing that so many smart people could be so dumb!!— September 4, 2014 6:49 a.m.
Sweetwater cash cow improperly milked
This afternoon I toured Eastlake High to see the disaster that is the physical state of this campus. Active construction sites on the north and south ends of campus, over 3000 students, classes sizes in the 40s and 50s, a sloppy, dirty and poorly kept campus. Classrooms, flooring are old and worn. Desks and chairs are original with the campus. Shortage of equipment and supplies. And what is the district doing ? Why they are diverting money to fund 40 so they can get out of the property mess! Where are this districts priorities? Tom Calhoun and the rest of the old and ineffective administration needs to go. Not just a new board and superintendent, but new senior leadership as well. It's amazing this type of diversion of funds can occur without Michel, Glover, Leyba, CASTILLEJA and others not knowing. And this is ok? Incredible!!— September 3, 2014 9:04 p.m.
