Who caused San Diego's massive power failure September 8?
What was the prime interest rate July 23, 220 BC? =========== I think they used the Julian calendar in 220 BC.— October 11, 2011 10:46 p.m.

Deposits are defined as money entrusted to the bank by somebody else that's not the bank's own capital. So the money from the fed is not necessarily going to the banks, but to someone else. =========== The banks borrow money from the Fed and in turn use the money to buy Treasury Bonds. Bernanke had the law changed so that banks can write-off the interest expense they pay to the Fed on their taxes, while the interest income they receive from the Treasury is not taxed. This scheme effectively eliminates the bank's tax liability. This was done so that the banks can survive with little or no lending activity. The tax-free interest the banks receive from the Treasury is enough to maintain their core operations indefinitely. The rate of return banks receive on interest income from tax free Treasury bonds exceeds the after-tax return the banks receive from interest income on consumer loans and business loans. So there is no incentive to lend.— October 11, 2011 10:14 p.m.
Copley Press Sells Six Aging La Jolla Cottages for $5.9 million
Turk is going to have to build high-rise condos to earn a return on his $5.9 million investment. The 9 rentals likely generate less than $250,000 a year in rent income. Turk would need to generate at least $400,000 in rent income to support his $5.9 million investment. The numbers suggest that Turk is going to raze and develop the property. The community is not going to like it.— October 10, 2011 4:30 p.m.
Steve Jobs Died
Jobs was in the transistor radio business, he just didn't know it. Updated versions of the products Apple currently sells, iPhone, iPod, iPad, IMac and iTunes, will be selling for $29.95 at Wal-Mart in ten years or less. There is no money to be made in this technology, or any other technology, over the long term. Sylvania made tons of money in the early 1950s when portable transistor radios were selling for $150 apiece but was out of the business by the 1960s when Japanese transistor radios were selling for $1.95. RCA could not make money selling color TVs. Hewlett Packard cannot make money importing computers and printers from China. Apple will soon falter and the Chinese vendors who manufacture its products will buy the name and start putting out products under Apple's name. Apple will soon be under Chinese ownership when the stock price collapses and its products will designed by Chinese engineers and made in Chinese factories. Design and technology always migrates to the Asian contractor who manufactures the product. Unload your Apple shares while there is still time!— October 6, 2011 11:59 a.m.
San Diego Tenth Most Expensive City
You might be better off buying a small house in the Temecula area. Temecula is only about an hour from San Diego. The area is loaded with newer houses that are selling dirt cheap. If you move to San Diego, your $1,300 per month rent will increase relentlessly year after year. If the economy recovers, you could be paying $2,500 per month rent 10 years from now. Expect an annual rent increase of at least $50 to $100 per month. If you're living on a fixed income, it could get ugly living in San Diego as it has for many retirees. Also, expect to pay about 7% of your income in California state income taxes.— October 4, 2011 11:27 p.m.

25."America's Finest City" was cooked up after the Republican convention was moved out of San Diego because of scandal. Best, Don Bauder ======= That's right. Jack Anderson published the Dita Beard memo which blew the lid off the whole scam. IT&T agreed to underwrite the 1972 Republican Convention in San Diego if the Nixon administration dropped an anti-trust case against the company. Mayor Pete Wilson hatched a lunatic scheme to expand the Sports Arena for the convention. Nixon was supposed to helicopter in from his estate in San Clemente to accept the presidential nomination. Wilson of course thought that he was going to be standing next to Nixon on national TV as his running mate.— October 2, 2011 9:40 p.m.
ACE Parking, SDPD and my Nightmare from Hell
Also, a parking lot is not a public street, it's private property. The owner of that property installed Ace to run the lot (unless Ace owns the lot, which is more rare but not unlikely). ====== But 24 Hour Fitness pays the owner of the structure to permit gym members to park for free, apparently as long as they park for less than an hour. The parking lot attendants could have contacted 24 Hour fitness to confirm when historymatters arrived and left the gym. It's illegal for the Police to intervene in civil disputes between customers and business owners. The issue of her liability to Ace Parking should have been decided in Small Claims Court, not by two uniformed thugs. It's not entirely clear at this point that she owes Ace Parking anything. Historymatters was illegally detained by the police and was forced, under an implied threat of police violence, to provide her personal information against her will. She should sue Ace Parking and the SDPD.— October 2, 2011 1:47 p.m.

Burwell's hilarious comments will not be used by the ConVis people when they are promoting "America's Finest City," a slogan and falsehood born of a political scandal, but it's true that life in every respect is better near the ocean. =========== My statements are accurate in all respects and I stand by them.— October 1, 2011 2:03 p.m.
ACE Parking, SDPD and my Nightmare from Hell
Ace Parking is a $350 million corporation with operations all over the U.S. Ace's owner, Scott A. Jones, is one of the most powerful business owners in San Diego. You can be damn certain the Police are going to show up when they get a call from Ace Parking. You're lucky the Police did not beat you up and charge you with a felony for resisting arrest.— September 30, 2011 10:37 p.m.
San Diego Tenth Most Expensive City
3.Well, then, since the wife and I won't be working, and will have a monthly income of approximately 4K, we anticipate allocating at least a thousand a month for rent. ================== For $1,000 per month in rent you're going to be living in an apartment building that is infested with Section 8 welfare recipients, gangs, and meth addicts. Most of the high end apartments are filled with smokers and heavy drinkers, so you may be shocked by the living conditions if you have not lived in an apartment recently. You're also going to need a gun for self-protection. Also, don't drive after 8 pm: at nite half the drivers on the road are drunk. Life in San Diego is not viable on less than $100,000 per year. You could make it on 4K per month, but only if you owned a house here that was fully paid for. San Diego is largely a slum with a few pockets of prosperity, mainly in areas near the ocean, where the wealthy live.— September 30, 2011 5:48 p.m.
