Manchester paid more than $110 million for San Diego Union-Tribune
I admit the numbers don't make any sense, but the Voice of San Diego quoted sources who say the U-T is currently earning between $25 and $30 million per year.— November 26, 2011 1:07 a.m.
Manchester paid more than $110 million for San Diego Union-Tribune
It was reported in the media that under Platinum Equity management the U-T is currently earning about $25 million per year, before interest and taxes.— November 25, 2011 8:50 p.m.
Manchester paid more than $110 million for San Diego Union-Tribune
It is likely that Manchester is borrowing against the value of his contract to develop the Navy Complex in order to maintain his personal lifestyle and to pay for the Union-Tribune. The development rights could be worth as much as $1 billion. If Manchester runs into cash flow problems, he can start selling percentage interests in the Navy complex project to pension funds and the like in order to keep himself afloat.— November 25, 2011 2:54 p.m.
Yes, Manchester IS Looking at U-T
Particularly with the death of Herb Klein.... ========== Herb is not dead. I saw him at the CalNeva Lodge playing Blackjack last month.— November 8, 2011 7:25 p.m.
Yes, Manchester IS Looking at U-T
I don't know anything about Twitter or Tweets. If Rachel Laing's Tweets are date and time stamped, then somebody should set up an Excel Spreadsheet and enter in the date and time of all her Tweets to see if she is Tweeting on the government dime. The Tweet relating to Bauder's Manchester blog has nothing to do with City business. City employees should not be searching the internet or reading blogs on city time.— November 8, 2011 7:21 p.m.
Yes, Manchester IS Looking at U-T
Papa Doug has a lot on his plate. He's about to break ground on a 1,000 room highrise hotel at the San Antonio convention center in Texas. At some point he is going to have to start work on the Naval complex redevelopment. I don't see how he will be able to handle both projects at the same time. He is over 70 years old. Given the projects he has in development and his age, there is no chance he would want to own a newspaper. No rational man in his situation would buy the U-T. He certainly might buy the land though as an investment, or for his heirs.— November 7, 2011 11 p.m.
Emergency broadcast test
In the 1950s and 1960s they used to test the emergency system everyday at 12 noon. San Diego was networked with a system of sirens mounted on metal poles as high as telephone poles. Every day at 12 noon the sires were activated and could be heard throughout the city.— November 5, 2011 4:31 p.m.
Auditor Says Police Botched Stripper Enforcement, Lost Track of Funds
Kolender should have been fired. He was busted fixing hundreds of tickets for the influential. He also had a sworn female officer as his aide whose major job was to stand in line at the bank and cash his checks, pick up his laundry, and run personal errands on city time. Search for and read the LA Times articles that describe Kolender's seamy tenure as Police Chief. I'm not going to repeat it here.— November 4, 2011 10:47 p.m.
Rumor: Hedgecock May Leave KOGO
According to Jimbo Valentine, Roger is a health food nut who is obsessed with his health and eats well. Roger is also frequently seen jogging on the Mission Beach boardwalk where he lives. He appears to be thin as a rail. While his physical health may be sound, he may be reaching the point where he's no longer sentinent. He could have bad genes. This could explain why he abandoned his principles and endorsed DeMaio for Mayor. His endorsement could be a symptom of creeping impairment.— November 4, 2011 6:36 p.m.
Could McGrory Have Given More?
I think Golding is employed by a non-profit organization.— November 3, 2011 10:34 p.m.
