Ponzi is never pretty
It looks the case was only civil. If he stole hundreds of thousands from investors to pay his personal expenses, why can't DA Bonnie Dumanis charge him with theft and fraud? How hard could it be to prosectute and convict Sample? What credible defense could he offer? I don't understand why these investment theft cases are settled with fines and restitution that the prepetrator never pays. It should be legally possible for DA Dumanis to charge Sample with fraud even though the SEC filed a civil suit against him.— June 7, 2014 2:42 p.m.

Cory Briggs, environmental ambulance-chaser?
I don't think Goldsmith has the legal authority to order an investigation of a non-profit to identify the members. The IRS administers the non-profits and determines whether they are legit. We know that from recent Congressional investigations. If the IRS has granted non-profit status to these organizations, then their legal existence should be recognized in state courts. Goldsmith is an out of control two-bit Richard Nixon who is abusing his legal authority to order investigations for political reasons. This is the same lunatic who prosecuted the chalker.— June 4, 2014 9:44 p.m.
U-T hypes long-delayed Manchester hotel plan
Large hotels are built by intinerant construction workers who move from state to state, living out of flea bag motels. The same workers who built the casinos and highrise condos in Las Vegas will build Manchester's hotel. There's no shortage of construction workers.— June 3, 2014 1 p.m.
Grunge in the Park
If you drive an Excursion, then you should park at the back of the parking lot where its empty instead of trying to park close to the store where it's jammed, especially with those oversized mirrors waiting to clothes hang unsuspecting pedestrians. When the driver of an oversized gas guzzler pulls out after back in parking, the driver just punches the accelerator forcing everyone to stay out of the way. That is the purpose of driving an oversize vehicle and back in parking, to threaten and harass other motorists. It should be illegal in California to back in park, just as it is in many other states. Rice also likely keeps the trailer hitch in the receiver of his oversized gas glutton vehicle sticking out a foot or more to kneecap unsuspecting pedestrians. Leaving a trailer hitch in a receiver should also be illegal like it is just about everywhere else.— May 26, 2014 10:10 a.m.
Beware: one minimum-wage proposal called a “sham”
The Bartells are related to the Garfields of Clairemont. In the early 1950s the Garfields owned most of the undeveloped land in Clairemont. They made a ton of dough selling off the land to developers or developing the land themselves. The Garfields built all the duplexes in the Indian Streets and most of the apartment buildings. The Garfields still own most of the apartment buildings, dozens of duplexes, and a large percentage of the shopping malls and commercial buildings in Clairemont.— May 25, 2014 10:35 a.m.

Grunge in the Park
I would have to agree you're an a-hole for back in parking your car. You no doubt caused others to wait while you spent 10 minutes backing the car in and out until you correctly positioned the car in the space. Then, when you left, you no doubt punched the accelerator, placing everyone who parked their cars correctly at risk. None of the other drivers would have any indication you're pulling out. When pulling out of a space I am constantly forced to jam on the brake to accommodate a back in parker who punches the accelerator with no warning. That's why there are back up lights on the rear of your car. So other drivers can tell when you are pulling out. It's a safety issue. Yes, you are an a-hole for parking your car that way. You should go back to Hillbillyville where you came from.— May 24, 2014 10:30 a.m.
