You've been steigerwalted and you won't see a dime. Kerry will do his year and start making money and become a millionnaire again. No dough for you.— May 19, 2012 2:11 p.m.
Did Sempra Bribe Mexicans?

Did Sempra Bribe Mexicans?
I don’t see Aguirre going very far with this. If Sempra had paid bribes to Mexican officials, it would have paid them indirectly by paying inflated costs for construction materials. The Mexican vendors who supplied the construction materials at inflated prices would in turn grease the officials. Some of the Mexican vendors who supplied materials probably included the payoffs in their bids. I suspect that Sempra officials never overtly offered a bribe to anyone: It didn’t have to. Sempra knew the vendors would take care of the payoffs. Aguirre will never be able to link Sempra directly to a bribe. He will not find a Sempra cancelled check paid to a Mexican official. I don’t know how he will prove his case in court.— May 17, 2012 7:55 p.m.
Ex-La Mesa Gas Station Owner Who Hired 9/11 Hijacker Faces Fraud and Money Laundering Charges

San Diego Unified's Real Estate Sale Now One Step Closer
San Diego Unified currently has reserves for emergencies totaling almost $330 million to bridge the budget gap if state funding is cut. San Diego Unified is at least 2-3 years away from having to decide whether to sell the real estate at fire sale prices. This deal stinks of political corruption. Soime board members want to run for higher offices and are doing favors to obtain future financial support from developers.— May 14, 2012 10:20 p.m.
UC Education Increasingly Out of Reach for Local Students
California no longer has a large enough tax base to support the UC system. It's time to restructure the UC system. Enrollment should be slashed by 50%. Half the campuses should be closed. We can't afford the fat, bloat, and waste in the UC system. The law and medical schools should be cut loose as private institutions and forced to support themselves without tax money.— May 12, 2012 10:08 p.m.
Utilities Commission Employees Want Investigation of Simon
If Simon embezzled money from the state by filing bogus expense reports as alleged by the complainants, then Simon may have committed a felony. The Franchise Tax Board could also charge him with tax evasion for failing to pay taxes on the money he is alleged to have stolen. I say alleged, because I consider him to be innocent of any charges until he's convicted in a court of law. If the accusations are true, this could be the tip of the iceberg. Simon needs to hire a good lawyer without delay. If I was him I'd hire Latham & Watkins to conduct an investigation and clear my name.— May 11, 2012 10:26 p.m.
Utilities Commission Employees Want Investigation of Simon
Simon salivates like Bauderlov's dog at the prospect of a free meal, bottle of wine, or hotel room.— May 11, 2012 6:18 p.m.
