Bridgepoint: Huge Profits, but Possibly No Future
Ashford will have to fix the problems identfied in the WASC report or Higher Learning will probably be forced to revoke accreditation. Prior to the WASC report it appears that Ashford could satisfy Higher Learning merely by shifting headcount from San Diego to Colorado. Now, Ashford is going to have to hire perhaps hundreds of professors and counselors, reduce spending on marketing, beef up academics, reduce the drop out rate, and address WASC's claim that the curriculum lacks academic rigor. This is going to be very expensive. After these changes Bridgepoint's gilded financial ratios are going to be tarnished. The state attorneys general are going to use the WASC report to go after Bridgepoint like a pack of starving junk yard dogs. WASC put the kibosh on Ashford and Bridgepoint is kaput.— July 15, 2012 10:15 p.m.
DeMaio To Hold Campaign Event at Headlinerz Barber Shop In North Park
University Heights has traditionally been considered to be North Park. The identitication of the area as University Heights did not begin until the early 1970s. In the 1950s and 1960s nobody referred to the area as University Heights.— July 14, 2012 8:11 a.m.
North Park Prowler Gets Away
Maybe if the cops laid off the donuts and beer, they would be able to chase and capture suspects who flee.— July 13, 2012 11:57 p.m.
Bridgepoint's Ashford Denied Accreditation; Stock Plummets
Bridgepoint does not have a viable business model at this point. WASC insists that Bridgepoint must decrease the percentage of "tuition" spent on marketing and increase the percentage allocable to education. Bridgepoint must also substantially decrease the drop out rate. In order to accomplish this Bridgepoint must reject unqualified applicants and cut spending on marketing. Bridgepoint will have fewer students and income and earnings will drop. BPI appears to worth no more that $6 a share at this point given the uncertainties.— July 10, 2012 8:26 p.m.

Issa's Committee Reports on Countrywide's VIP Loans
I have a queasy feeling about Darrell Issa. I'd feel a lot better if he voluntarily submitted his DNA to law enforcement for testing and comparison against the law enforcement database of unsolved crimes.— July 6, 2012 3:31 p.m.
A Star for Shotgun
Shane In Wonderland, Uncle Russ, and Johnny Downs never received Hollywood Walk of Fame Stars. Why should Kelly get a star?— July 6, 2012 12:19 a.m.
The NFL's Dirty Secret
Brute Krulak probably killed Don's series on Mafia involvement in the NFL. Nicholas Von Hoffman wrote a column in 1973 attacking Brute and the San Diego Union for "sunshine journalism." http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=BaNBAAAAIBAJ…— July 5, 2012 11:15 p.m.
Errant Drivers Worry Residents in Encinitas
Maybe the community should find out where these scofflaws work and picket their employers until they are fired. If they find new jobs, repeat the process and and deprive them of the ability to earn a living in the area. Send them back to Pudville. San Diego County is lousy with scum and something needs to be done to drive the riff raff out.— July 4, 2012 12:47 p.m.
