Has the Ghost of Jerry Dominelli Returned?
Yes, Dumanis was the DA who prosecuted Wilkening and McCune was the car dealer. See LA Times article below: http://articles.latimes.com/1989-06-01/local/me-1…— September 5, 2012 10 p.m.
Has the Ghost of Jerry Dominelli Returned?
Bonnie Dumanis investigated the Wilkening prostitution ring and Karin Winner covered the story for the Union Tribune. Winner broke the story that Bill Kolender was under investigation for being a whoremonger. Kolender left the employ of the Union Tribune at that point. He was able to clear his name of mongery accusations, but it cost him his life savings in legal fees. It was also alleged that Kolender covered up a shooting. A Chargers player was allegedly shot in the back by his girlfriend and it was alleged that Kolender orchestrated a coverup. This accusation was never proven.— September 5, 2012 9:21 p.m.
Auditor Confirms It: Convention Center Attendance Figures Misleading
Randy appears to be developing expertise in Obamacare. I hope he will research and write an article on the impact of Obamacare on the San Diego economy. It appears that many young San Diegans are going have to trim their expenses and shell out an additional $5,000 per year for insurance, or face costly IRS penalties. It appears that many San Diegans will soon have to forego the Gaslamp and Pacific Beach and find a less costly way to get drunk. Many on modest incomes will no longer be able to make the monthly BMW or Passat payment. I think Obamacare is going to have a negative impact on saloons and auto dealers as consumers start trimming the fat to pay their monthly insurance bill. http://www.kaiserhealthnews.org/Stories/2012/June…— September 3, 2012 11:49 p.m.
Investor Says NextWave Price Too Low
When Don first disclosed on this blog that Nextwave had been sold, I looked through the Forms 10-K at the SEC website and tried to calculate Papa Doug's investment in the company. I concluded that he had loaned the company about $80 million. I also read the sales agreement, and it appears that his $80 million will not be repaid. It appears that there's only enough money to repay the first lien note holders, and in order for the sale to go through, the first lien note holders had to release their security interest in the spectrum. They wouldn't release the security interest without full payment of principal and accrued interest. Papa Doug is a third lien note holder, and there's no money for the third lieners. I posted my opinion on the first blog entry that announced the sale. I've looked at those numbers a second time, and believe them to be accurate. But this is just my opinion, and I could be wrong.— September 2, 2012 10:54 p.m.
Hilton management caves to worker's-rights advocates, installs new employee break rooms in Mission Valley hotel.

Chargers 16th Biggest Political Donor
Alex Spanos is apparently afflicted with some form of dementia. I question whether a man with mental disease can legally contribute money to an election campaign, or whether its legal for a conservator to contribute money on his behalf.— August 31, 2012 11:15 a.m.
Man Guilty of Escondido Crime Spree Gets 74 Years
Hester's sport coat cost $1,800. I purchased an identical coat from Jack Fagman's in Chicago. His shirt is expensive imported Italian Mohair.— August 28, 2012 9:09 p.m.
Romney/Ryan and the New Padres Owners
The Padres press release states that Fowler will serve as "control person" for the new ownership group. This appears to indicate that Fowler is managing member of a new LLC, empowered to make routine management decisions. Control person does not mean that Fowler is majority owner as Moores was. I researched Liquid Investments. The company has reported sales of $220 million per year. If the company netted $15 million per year, it could be worth $150 million at the standard valuation multiple of 10 times earnings. I would assume that Liquid Investments is the bulk of Fowler's wealth. I don't think Fowler could have come up with $400 million to buy majority ownership, unless he put the beer distributorship in hock. I figure that Fowler has at most a 10% interest.— August 25, 2012 10:52 p.m.
San Diego Wants to Extend Red Light Camera Ticketing, Bid Document Reveals
I don't think the rank and file officers of the SDPD like red light cameras. Off-Duty officers who receive red light tickets face suspension without pay.— August 23, 2012 6:37 p.m.
