Former Councilwoman Pleads Guilty to Embezzling $3.5 Million
I think the DA is going light on embezzlers because most of the stolen money is going into local casinos. I think there's a deliberate effort underway to put a fig leaf over the situation because powerful casino owners don't want negative publicity. Embezzlers who plead out receive light sentences so the motive for their crimes is kept out of open court and shielded from media scrutiny. For example, in this case there is scant reference to where the $3.5 million went. I'm fairly certain where the money went. And if the money went to the casinos, they should return it to the victim as a matter of policy if not the law.— September 15, 2012 10:51 a.m.
Chargers Tied for First (In Price of a Beer)
The Associated Students apparently won't comp Sanders' beer at Viejas Arena. The video below shows a relatively trim Sanders leading a protest over high beer prices at Viejas Arena. He's lucky campus authorities didn't charge him with inciting a riot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FCSvbRuZc4— September 13, 2012 6:52 p.m.
Is Alan Bersin irreplaceable? Obama still hasn’t found anyone to be Customs commissioner
Were it not for Ratner money Bersin would be serving coffee at Starbucks for a living.— September 13, 2012 4:05 p.m.
Coleman University to Close San Marcos Campus
Coleman is a nonprofit institution. I looked at the data at the Foundation Finder website. Coleman appears to be in good financial shape, at least as of 2011. The head guy is paid only $120,000 a year. I understand that Coleman has a good reputation and provides an excellent technical education.— September 12, 2012 11:50 p.m.
Jane Fonda as Nancy Reagan
Jane Fonda has a lot of mileage on her, no doubt about it.— September 12, 2012 11 p.m.
Chargers Tied for First (In Price of a Beer)
Sanders is lucky he sits in a comped sky box and drinks free beer at Chargers games. At those prices a guy in his pathetic situation could easily spend $200 on beer at a single game.— September 12, 2012 8:15 p.m.
Politico.com Knocks U-T's Republican Helpfest
The following is the only excerpt from Barbour's column that I could locate on the internet Writer: “ I have a very good memory. Recently I have been trying something you suggested many years ago. I am sorry to report that it does not work. You said that male impotency could be prevented by eating a lot of baked, unseasoned Idaho potatoes. I have become impotent. I have eaten baked potatoes until they run from my ears. They have not helped me one bit. What do you think of your advice now?” Barbour:” Your memory is faulty. I never, never, never have said that potatoes would prevent or cure impotency. I do recall printing a letter from a man asking about the “potato therapy” plan regarding impotency. I told him it would not work. Apparently, the rumor about potatoes was started by an Idaho public relations man. He wanted to sell more potatoes. “— September 10, 2012 8:34 p.m.
Politico.com Knocks U-T's Republican Helpfest
The U-T is recycling Neil Morgan's columns in an effort to attract readers after they fired him! They published the column where he describes how he destroyed his rented camper. I hope they start recylcing the Best of John Sinor and Richmond Barbour columns. This is a great idea. http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2012/sep/08/the-be…— September 9, 2012 10:05 a.m.

The Touch and How to Use It
The Hells Angels outlaw motorcycle gang has dropped DeMaio and is now endorsing Filner. Filner has agreed to don Hells Angels colors and ride a Harley in the next Gay Pride Parade in exchange for the endorsement. Filner has also promised to help the Angels obtain a zoning variance so they can build a new clubhouse in La Jolla. The Angels are also taking care of hecklers at Filner campaign events.— September 7, 2012 10:50 p.m.
