Permits?
Papa Doug don't need no stinking permits. If Papa wants to grade his land without a permit, that land's going to be graded. If he wants to install a cellphone receiver at his estate that jams your cellphone without an FCC permit , tough luck. Use a land line. If he wants to build a chopper pad at his hotel for take-out pizza deliveries, he's going to build it.— November 12, 2012 11:53 a.m.
Did Sanders trade his DeMaio support for chamber job?
Had Copley Press had waited six months to sell the midwest papers, they would have fetched a firesale price. Copley Press would have been unable to repay its loans and would have been forced to file bankruptcy. David Copley missed total financial destruction by no more than 90-180 days. He's very lucky that he unloaded the midwest papers on a knife catcher for a decent price.— November 12, 2012 10:45 a.m.
Did Sanders trade his DeMaio support for chamber job?
What's particulary disturbing about this situation is that the Chamber is going to hire Sanders even though it knows he can't perform the job. I read in another publication that the Chamber is going to hire a professional to backstop Sanders and perform the work he is supposed to perform.— November 10, 2012 11:40 p.m.
Did Sanders trade his DeMaio support for chamber job?
I think Sanders is trying to build up an estate to leave to his children. The business owners and developers that Sanders helped while mayor are paying him off by giving the Chamber money for his salary. He couldn’t take the money when he was mayor: They call that bribery. I think it was clearly understood by all that Sanders would be paid after his term ended for what did. If Sanders did a favor for a developer in 2007 and the developer funds his salary through the Chamber in 2013, I don’t know if the FBI could establish a causal link between the 2007 favor and the 2013 payment. I think it is uncharted criminal law when a payoff occurs 6 years after the favor. Situations like this should clearly be prosecutable crimes.— November 10, 2012 11:23 p.m.
Fewer people than ever are reading newspapers; electronic media are not making up the difference.
The Reader market appears to be composed primarily of hirsute women with flat chests who need sun tans.— November 9, 2012 11:39 p.m.
Issa committee used taxpayer funds to attack Obama, says reform group
There are rumors that Issa plans to run for President in 2016.— November 7, 2012 10:22 p.m.
Fewer people than ever are reading newspapers; electronic media are not making up the difference.
I attribute the lack of interest in news to social decay and entropy.— November 7, 2012 9:13 p.m.
Who's Mr. Clean? Larry Remer? Voice of San Diego?
It's better to be named "Foofaraw" than "Faulderoy" or "Buncombe".— November 4, 2012 9:49 p.m.
Who's Mr. Clean? Larry Remer? Voice of San Diego?
Smith caused the bank to make illegal loans to his other business ventures. Federal bank rules place strict limits on the amount of related party loans. Smith went over the limit. He also pocketed part of the loan proceeds for himself. For example, the bank would loan $4 million to the tuna cannery. He would pocket for himself $1 million of the $4 million loan. The books of the cannery would be cooked to make it appear that it received a $4 million loan from the bank. The cannery would then repay $4 million. He was running an embezzlement scheme.— November 3, 2012 5:12 p.m.
Who's Mr. Clean? Larry Remer? Voice of San Diego?
In addition to the bank, Smith owed National Steel and Shipbuilding, the Padres, Fashion Valley Shopping Center, the Westgate Hotel, Yellow Cab, Air California, a tuna cannery, and other properties. He was also financier of Southland Music, an alleged front for the mob.— November 3, 2012 5:07 p.m.
