Water hogs' lament
I have no intention of conserving water or paying for a car wash. I was born here and I am entitled to the water. Let the transplants conserve. They are responsible for the water shortage. I should not have to suffer for their stupidity in moving to an overcrowded area with high housing prices and a shortage of water.— July 15, 2014 11:26 p.m.
Suit-happy lawyer sues theaters over free popcorn
I am certain Terry Brown does his best to keep both male and female hookers out of the hotel. But if a renegade employee working at night was barring male hookers and allowing female hookers into the hotel without Brown's knowledge, he could be hit with a very nasty discrimination lawsuit. Terry needs to be vigilant to prevent this from happening and train his employees well.— July 11, 2014 1:37 p.m.
Suit-happy lawyer sues theaters over free popcorn
Terry Brown might be at risk of a discrimination lawsuit if Rava can prove Terry keeps male hookers from working in the hotel. I know things haven't been going well for Terry lately, aside from the Filner resignation. Terry's pushing 80 years old and U-T San Diego reported he had to get help from an LA outfit because he's $70 million in debt. Where did the money go?— July 11, 2014 11:49 a.m.
Not quite rags to riches, but...
It was that horrible judge, Lisa Guy-Schall, that overturned the arbitrators decision that awarded $5 million to Vitale and Paladino. Guy-Schall was arrested drunk while driving the wrong direction on the freeway. Now the Appeals Court has confirmed, as have many appeals courts, what a horrible judge Guy-Schall is. She sure ain't no Oliver Wendell Holmes. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-09-18/bus…— July 4, 2014 9:46 a.m.
How much did they pay you to move to Texas?
It sounds like the company has too many native born engineers on the payroll. So they move the company to Texas, hoping most of the well-paid native born engineers quit the company. Once in Texas, they will hire Indian and Chinese engineers fresh off the boat at greatly reduced wages.— July 3, 2014 10:52 p.m.
How much did they pay you to move to Texas?
Rick Perry has indicated several times that he eventually plans to move to San Diego and live here full time, if he can swing it financially. If God gave the world an enema, He'd stick the nozzle in Texas. Even Perry doesn't want to live in Texas.— July 3, 2014 10:47 p.m.
Supreme Court rules in favor of carriers
Congress changed the law to make it virtually risk free for employers to improperly convert employees to independent contractors. If the employer issued 1099s to the improperly converted employees and the employer is later busted by the Revenuers, the employer owes no interest or penalties on the unpaid employment taxes and withholding so as long as the employer pays the tax within ten days after receiving the bill. The employer doesn't have to pay the withholding if he/she shows the employees paid the withholding.— July 3, 2014 3:57 p.m.
Supreme Court rules in favor of carriers
It appears that U-T San Diego has little chance of overturning the January decision in the Appellate Court after the Supreme Court ruling. Papa Doug is going to have to raise $10 million to pay off the carriers. Papa Doug is proof that the best way to make a small fortune in the newspaper business is to invest a large fortune in the newspaper business.— June 30, 2014 10:20 p.m.
Jack sued by Michael Shames!
It Rosner wins or settles the case, he will probably be awarded at least $2 million in legal fees. It's not clear how any settlement would compensate consumers like Visduh who were gouged for the extra cheese. Are they going to send Visduh a check for 30 cents, or give him a coupon for free cheese on his next purchase? Rosner's the real plaintiff in this case, not consumers like Visduh. If the case is settled, Shames is supposed to receive the same compensation as the other class members: basically nothing. What is Shames' vig on this lawsuit? Is he going to settle for his free cheese coupon or is he going to get more?— June 29, 2014 10:05 p.m.
Jack sued by Michael Shames!
Has Shames paid off that $100,000 in legal fees he owes for filing that bogus defamation lawsuit?— June 27, 2014 2:07 p.m.
