Lawyer Stocker disbarred over child pornography
Swift Boat veteran and San Diego Attorney Wade Sanders appears to have committed the same violation as Stocker. Sanders pleaded guilty to a felony and got 36 months in prison. Prosecutors wanted 63 months. Stocker finishes probation, his conviction is expunged, and he's no longer a registered sex offender. This doesn't smell right. http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2009/may/04/bn04sa…— February 12, 2013 10:08 p.m.
Which 007 will be a no show at this year's Oscar Bond rally?
You forgot David Niven. He played Bond in Casino Royale.— February 11, 2013 7:41 p.m.
Jury deliberates case against two Border Patrol agents
It looks like Hellweg hired a top rated lawyer for her defense. Hellweg is probably paying $200,000 in legal fees for her defense. http://bestlawfirms.usnews.com/firms/knut-s-johns…— February 9, 2013 4:55 p.m.
No third three-story home on West Point Loma Blvd.
The demo'd properties appear to be well-maintained rentals that fit within the character of the community. The houses that replaced them are massively overbuilt for the size of the lot and further shield the ocean from public view. I applaud Mayor Filner for his stand against the proliferation of McMansions in the beach areas. Filner is a man of courage for his willingness to enforce the building codes and zoning laws as they are written. The city should exercise its power of eminent domain and buy the other two McMansions and tear them down as they are out of scale for the community and should never have been built.— February 9, 2013 12:35 p.m.
Jury deliberates case against two Border Patrol agents
It looks like Judge Elias has had problems with the DA in the past. http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2010/jan/27/second…— February 9, 2013 12:20 p.m.
One way to negotiate: threaten to blow up the plant
Send in the Pinkertons to bust some heads. Get them Frenchies straightened out!— February 8, 2013 10:33 p.m.
Did you charge more than $100,000 on your expense account?
The money doesn't sound like a lot with top drawer hookers charging $2,000 an hour. A hundred grand ain't what it used to be.— February 7, 2013 12:01 a.m.
Hilton Mission Valley to lay off 148
The hotel owners are probably going to fire everyone and hire an outside contractor to manage the hotel. The outside contractor will hire its own employees to insure a seamless transition. It's also possible that the hotel will change hands soon and the new owners want the union agitators off the payroll before the deal closes. The owners have almost certainly hired a union-busting labor lawyer to make sure the firing holds up in court. I'm sure the owners have a legal strategy in place to stave off unionization. The mass firing may be a last ditch effort to stop the union. Only time will tell.— February 6, 2013 11:36 p.m.
La Costa's Merv Adelson admits mob ties
The FBI building deals appear to be raw deals for the taxpayer. The leases appear to be structured so that the FBI's annual lease payment pays the land acquisition and construction costs in only ten years. That is, Molasky will own the buildings free and clear of any debts after ten years. When the initial lease terms expire, the buildings are paid for but the FBI is in the position of having to negotiate lease extensions at then current market rates. The FBI should have constructed its own buildings with a budget appropriation instead of signing costly leases that no profit-making corporation would ever sign. With regard to the San Diego FBI building, it would have been cheaper to relocate the FBI to the Broadway Naval Complex where there's plenty of free space that's already paid for.— February 1, 2013 1:49 p.m.
Borrego: Casa del Zorro coming back
Don reported in an earlier blog that McGrory could have earned as much as $80 million from founders stock when he left his executive position with PriceSmart, a Costco knock off that operates a chain of stores in South America. McGrory also helped John Moores build the Ballpark. I don't know if Jack had a piece of the Ballpark development. If he did, he likely made a killing there too.— February 1, 2013 12:10 a.m.
