Local home values to rise 9.3% in next year, says zillow.com
Buyers are routinely financing $800,000 houses with only $20,000 down in San Diego and have been for some time. FHA loans are easy to obtain and only require a 3.5% down payment. It's no wonder housing pricing are going up. The great unwashed have been unleashed on the housing market for a second time. The rules are being weakened to accommodate the slugs who can't save money.— July 23, 2013 8:12 p.m.
Questions about McCormack Jackson suit
McCormack Jackson probably left the Port District to add another pension to her retirement portfolio. She probably received a pension of at least $50,000 per year from the Port District, so changing jobs was not really a pay cut. By moving to the city and working for $125K, she'll probably get another $3,000 per month pension after putting in 8 years with the city. Leaving the Port was likely a sound financial deal. Another 8 years would probably put her at age 65 so she could collect social security benefits. She's probably also collecting a pension from the Copley Press defined benefit plan, and also has a Copley 401k stuffed with dough.— July 22, 2013 10:43 p.m.
Daylong drunk in Ocean Beach
Sober people stick out like a sore thumb in Ocean Beach.— July 18, 2013 8:30 p.m.
Papa Doug Manchester in Hollywood
Papa Doug does look as though he's had a face lift. His hair used to be silver, now it's brown. His hairline looks plugged. Only his hairdresser knows for sure.— July 17, 2013 11:04 p.m.
Ignoring friends' advice got Filner into trouble
Garden variety harassment cases like Filner's appear to settle for around $30,000. The settlements are fully taxable. Should they win women filing claims against Filner should expect to net about $12,000 after legal fees and taxes. I think most women are going to conclude its not worth the time or effort to file a claim. Women who file harassment cases are pariahs in the labor market and should think twice before filing. I doubt many women are going to want their names in the paper, or have their lifestyles exposed if the case goes to court. I think Filner will survive if only two or three cases are filed against him. I predict that only one harassment case will be filed against him.— July 16, 2013 8:25 p.m.
When Goldsmith hit his wife, tossed items off the table
I've never beaten my wife for fear she might become addicted to it.— July 15, 2013 8:13 p.m.
When Goldsmith hit his wife, tossed items off the table
Goldsmith is a sobersided temperate man. He would not beat his wife unless she was asking for it.— July 15, 2013 7:02 p.m.
Big people talk about issues; small people talk about people
The woman is supposed to be a lobbyist for an airline. I would suggest to Filner that he try saltpeter if his drive is on overdrive and he can't control himself. A little saltpeter in Filner's diet would make him as meek as a lamb. Brute Krulak swore by Saltpeter and ordered its use in the San Diego Union cafeteria as a productivity enhancer.— July 13, 2013 11:12 p.m.
Leap Wireless shares zoom on AT&T purchase agreement
This is a tremendous achievement. Leap was selling for $49 a share in 2008. There's nothing like unlocking shareholder value by selling off the company.— July 13, 2013 10:26 p.m.
Big people talk about issues; small people talk about people
Filner's fate rests on whether he merely made crude sexual comments to these women, or whether there was groping and physical contact. The fact that Frye broke into tears may indicate that Filner was a groper. If Filner was grabbing handfulls, then he will likely be prosecuted for sexual battery. I think Filner is being given the choice of either resigning and facing civil suits, or not resigning and facing civil suits and possible prosecution. In my opinion, the US Attorney is going to pull out the stops to find a way to turn the Sunroad donation into a crime, to get Filner out of the way because he supports medical marijuana. Filner needs to find a criminal lawyer and raise money for his legal defense. He probably needs to hire Milton Silverman or another lawyer of his caliber. He's in real trouble.— July 11, 2013 9:25 p.m.
