City of San Diego wins lawsuit over defective pipe
Jan Goldsmith had nothing to do with winning the case: a private whistleblower law firm filed the case and the City of San Diego merely jumped in as a plaintiff. I don't think Jan Goldsmith wants to publicize this case. He doesn't want to attract attention to his failure to notify the insurance company about the condo owners claim against the city for corroded pipes. Now the city's on the hook for $30 million because Janno screwed up and UT San Diego is covering it up. Jan claims the smell from the pipes was not from city negligence, but from condo owners eating too much Mexican food. He saw no need to notify the insurance company for what he concluded was a dietary issue.— November 15, 2013 12:23 p.m.
Faulconer bails, mayoral debate canceled
I think it's obvious at this point that Faulconer cannot win. David Alvarez is going to get out of the race and shift his support to Fletcher and put him over the top. In exchange, Fletcher will have to agree to appoint a lot of Hispanics to important positions and support living wage and rent control. Faulconer is too dumb to be Mayor. His college grades were atrocious even though he took light weight classes. He has a history of incompletes, unauthorized withdrawals, and no credits which are really failing grades. This shows he has no discipline and could not complete his courses. He may have drank his way through college. With his academic record he could never be admitted to the USD law school or a decent graduate school. I don't see how he ever got a job in public relations with his grades. http://www.utsandiego.com/documents/2013/oct/28/k…— November 12, 2013 9:24 p.m.
City faces lawsuit over condos' defective pipes
It's also disturbing that Goldsmith denied a claim from the condo owners that, had Goldsmith acted competently and timely, apparently would have been paid by the insurance company and not the city. Someone should file a complaint against Goldsmith and his lieutenants with the California Bar Association. Goldsmith and his lieutenants should lose their law licenses over this. Aguirre never would have screwed up like this. Goldsmith is not on top of things. He's not doing his job.— November 10, 2013 1:09 p.m.
City faces lawsuit over condos' defective pipes
Jan Goldsmith was elected City Attorney in 2008. He's the fool responsible for the City failing to notify the insurance company on time. Goldsmith is a dim witted bungler who cost the City $30 million. If Goldsmith does not resign over this fiasco, then he should be recalled and replaced in a special election. Jan Goldsmith is an absolute disgrace to this City and he should go back to New York where he belongs!— November 10, 2013 9:21 a.m.
North Park's F Street adult store property up for grabs
I don't remember when the F Street Bookstore moved in, but I think the first floor of the building was vacant for many years, maybe decades, before F Street moved in. The Alma Vasic trust owns 2004 University. It looks like Vasic owes the County at least $5,000 in delinquent property taxes on 2004 University.— November 8, 2013 10:59 p.m.
North Park's F Street adult store property up for grabs
The building used to house a drive-through cleaners from the 1940s through the late 1960s. There used to be a Victorian-style mansion on the other side of the street, on top of the hill, where the huge cracker box apartment complex is now located.— November 8, 2013 5:45 p.m.
Dumanis funding plea goes for the jugular
It's time for Bonnie's careeuh in lore enfarcement to end. She should retire and collect her $175,000 a year pension.— November 7, 2013 8:16 p.m.
Lawyer suspended six months for multiple violations
I searched the Reader website and this story has not appeared before. Cooke's discipline was first disclosed in the November 2013 California Bar Journal which was posted three days ago according to Google. No other media has covered this story. I am also outraged by this pathetic slap on the wrist. Cooke should have lost his license for life.— November 7, 2013 6:22 p.m.
Manchester buys more San Diego papers
I think a year from now the La Jolla Light will be the only of the eight still in bidness. The others will not make it financially. Papa John will proclaim the papers have failed buisness models and can't be turned around.— November 1, 2013 10:12 p.m.
Indian company Infosys to pay record immigration fine
From what I've read, the Jacobs family controls less than 4% of Qualcomm's stock, but stuffed the board of directors with loyalists. When Qualcomm falters, Paul Jacobs will likely be fired in short order. I think the Jacobs clan is very large, and Paul Jacobs actually needs his Qualcomm salary to provide an inheritance to his children and extended family.— November 1, 2013 3:06 p.m.
