Big money political event held quietly at Manchester resort
I bet hundreds of high class hookers flew in from all parts of the country to service that crowd.— January 3, 2014 10:19 a.m.
SDG&E in legal tangle with Montana wind farms
It costs more to convert saltwater into fresh water than it does to refine crude oil into gasoline.— December 31, 2013 11:29 a.m.
SDG&E in legal tangle with Montana wind farms
It's understandable that mridolf favors a technology that he makes money from. The turbines should only be allowed to operate at night when few birds fly to minimize the losses. The effect of the turbines on bird populations is going to be worse than DDT if something is not done.— December 30, 2013 10:30 p.m.
Commonwealth Ultra Lounge already ailing?
You've got most of it right. I have not been to a movie theatre since 1970. I saw the move Patton at the Fashion Valley movie theatre (now torn down) in 1970. I refuse to pay utility bills for heat or air conditioning. I have a rotary dial phone and a pre-paid cell phone that only costs me $100 per year. I go to the dentist for a cleaning every 4 months and the doctor as needed.— December 29, 2013 1:01 a.m.
Citizens for Odor Nuisance Abatement sues city
The stench is not a recent phenomenon. The stench is the result of laws protecting sea lions and cormorants from extermination that increased their numbers. I was not joking about red tagging homes close to the ocean for health reasons related to guano. Those houses never should have been built in the first place. I believe in the legal concept of reverse zoning. The City has the right to change an area's zoning and force property owners to comply with the new zoning at their cost. Zoning rules should be changed for La Jolla so that no house can be constructed with 1,000 feet of high tide. Houses and buildings out of compliance with the new zoning rules would have to be torn down at the owner's expense.— December 27, 2013 2:20 p.m.
Citizens for Odor Nuisance Abatement sues city
The sea lions and cormorants are protected by law. Nothing should be done about the smell. The only way the City can address the guano problem is to exterminate the sea lions and cormorants. The City should red tag the houses in the affected areas due to health hazards from guano and force residents out of their homes. The City is not liable for the defecation habits of protected birds and animals and bears no liability to residents who can no longer live in their homes due to the health hazards. Birds and animals should not be exterminated simply because rich people are offended by their smell.— December 27, 2013 12:47 p.m.
Big Screen Christmas Mailbag
I thought Marks wore a hair piece like Jan Goldsmith. His hair looked real on that video.— December 25, 2013 8:45 p.m.
Commonwealth Ultra Lounge already ailing?
Eating in a restaurant is like flushing money down the toilet. Buy your groceries in bulk at Costco and put the savings in the bank. Most of you are going to need the money.— December 22, 2013 4:14 p.m.
Drones are humanitarian, misnamed, says General Atomics
The Predator could take out a narcotraficante while he's driving down the freeway alone. The hit would be clean and quick with no collateral damage. The Federales could put out a press release claiming the car was struck by a thunderbolt. Plausible deniability. No one would be the wiser.— December 19, 2013 10:41 p.m.
Drones are humanitarian, misnamed, says General Atomics
These planes could do the Lord's work in Mexico taking out drug traffickers. In a year or two the entire drug cartel could be wiped out with Hell Fire missiles launched from Predators.— December 19, 2013 8:11 p.m.
