Bikers gather to pay tribute to one of their own
I looked at the accident scene with Google Street View, and the pedestrians have a clear view of the road in both directions. There's no way they could enter the street without having plenty of warning that Williams' motorcycle was approaching. If they were in the middle of the street, then they were probably tempting fate and acting stupid. I don't know all the facts, but it appears that several in the group should be charged with manslaughter. The pedestrian that got killed was a Darwin award winner. The problem with Darwins is that they often take innocent guys like Williams with them.— February 3, 2014 10:44 p.m.
Neil Morgan dead at 89
I suspect the beginning of the end for Morgan was the column he wrote about Duncan Hunter. Morgan was at a party and quoted some really stupid things Hunter was supposed to have said. Morgan wrote that even Hunter's wife was embarrassed by his comments. The column was a strong attack on Hunter if I recall correctly. It turned out that Hunter's wife was not present at the party and Hunter accused Morgan of fabricating the column. I think the paper issued a retraction.— February 3, 2014 10 p.m.
Neil Morgan dead at 89
I think they fired Neil Morgan because he earned too much money. The Copley brass was probably compensated in part based on profits, and fired Morgan to beef up the bottom line and their bonuses. I don't think the company ever thought Morgan would issue a press release announcing his firing.— February 2, 2014 12:26 p.m.
Valor Medical hid critical information from FDA
These two pieces of shit got off light. Both are still listed as executives with Valor Medical. They did not even lose their jobs. They should be in jail for at least 10 years and subject to 100% asset forfeiture. These two sociopaths would likely put defective drugs on the market that would kill people in order to meet next quarter's profit projections. They can't be trusted to run a drug company and should be barred from the industry for life. The game plan was probably to have the FDA approve the test, giving both of them enough time to unload Valor on a big drug company for $500 million. When the big drug company later finds out its been screwed, the whole thing is covered up to avoid embarrassing the executives at the big drug company who bought the company.— February 1, 2014 11:22 a.m.
Jordan Belfort – wolf on Wall Street? No, scumbag
Scotty, send Don a DVD of the movie. Maybe he'll watch it if its free. Send me a free DVD too. Put the tab on your Reader expense account.— January 30, 2014 9:01 p.m.
Like Hedgecock, unlike son
Hedgecock's children would never attend a garbage pit high school in a place like Santee. Hedgecock's children went to private schools, just like he did.— January 29, 2014 10:28 p.m.
Former SDPD detective wanted Chief Lansdowne out
City Attorney Jan Goldsmith forbade Chief Landsdowne from carrying a swagger stick, or wearing his pearl handled revolver. Goldsmith feared the Chief would lose control of his Irish temper and whip somebody with the swagger stick, causing legal woe for the city. Chief Landsdowne also attempted to issue an order forcing all officers to wear Sam Browne belts. The order was rescinded because many officers were just too damn fat to wear the belts.— January 25, 2014 8:35 a.m.
Union-Tribune loses suit to carriers
I would have thought that Copley Press Inc. is liable for the judgment since the company owned the paper during the 2005-2007 time period. However, it appears that legal liability for the lawsuit was assumed by Platinum Equity when it bought the paper and transferred to Manchester Lynch Integrated Media LLC when the paper was sold the second time. Papa Doug and Papa John took big hits today. http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2014/jan/22/union-…— January 22, 2014 9:28 p.m.
Former SDPD detective wanted Chief Lansdowne out
The dough was probably laundered through the Lincoln Club before it wound up in the hands of the candidates. This may only be the tip of the iceberg and there could be many more indictments to follow, including campaign staff and the candidates themselves.— January 21, 2014 11:05 p.m.
Jewish center canceled singer's show
A real shame. I am told that Eyal's grandfather served in the Merchant Marine during WWII with the center's donor, M. Larry Lawrence.— January 20, 2014 7:38 p.m.
