Dictionary Hill: the newest open space preserves in the county

In the 60's four of us drove up to Dictionary Hill crammed into a buddies tiny French car. At one point the road was too steep for the car to continue, so three us had to get out so the driver could turn the car around. Now that I think about I'm glad he did not need to do any emergency braking on the way down the hill: the brakes on that car no doubt would have failed heading down the steep hill with the weight of four high school boys. If anyone wants adventure, skip the hiking trail and try driving around the housing areas near the peaj: that will get your adrenaline flowing.

Why do we keep building in Mission Valley?

That flooded section of parking lot and the adjacent dip crossing where the river flows across the road heading west has been doing that for decades without much problem: when it gets too wet they put up some "road closed" signs, open the fence on the downstream side of the road, and it's good to go. No one's house is flooded, the shopping mall itself stays dry, but every time it rains too much, the TV news operations have to send someone down to Fashion Valley to report on this - it helps if they send a cub reporter who doesn't know it's no big deal.

Downtown darling Kris Michell back in city government

That government pension thing can be a sweetheart. transparentcalifornia.com reports Golding gets about $58,000 a year from 15.1 years of city service and another $14,000 for time spent as a County Supervisor. Note bad for retiring at age 55. I'm all but certain that she makes more as a retired mayor than she did when she was in office: she gets COLAs. Kris Mitchell must see the public pension plan as a gift from Kris Kringle: there must be some kind of big future paybacks for buying those credits. Meanwhile everyone else enjoye your fixed pension, Social Security, or living in a shopping cart. Let us eat cake, huh Kris?
