Mayor Filner's lawyer wants sexual harassment case moved to Imperial County
Harvey Berger might want to consider a county with fewer biker types. Imperial is loaded with bikers (especially Christian ones), and Filner's latest offended lady is the modest biker/marketing guru [Pink Biker Chick Eldonna][1]. Eldonna's services are for hire at http://www.pinkbikerchic.com/. Maybe Filner should just hire her. According to CNN, she met Filner; he called her later and referred to seeing her give a speech. Maybe t[his one][2]? She got wolf-whistles. She could claim that was Filner whistling. Disgusting!!! On CNN, she played a voicemail saying "Hi, it's your newly favorite congressman, Bob Filner. You know, the one who fell in love with you at your last speech. I don't want to wait 'til you come back to have dinner with you." Horrifying! City Attorney Jan Goldsmith slapped with lawsuit for refusing to disclose public records
This is a well-researched and sourced story. It doesn't even begin to qualify for the "if you can't report the news, just make it up" award. That award goes to L Halverstadt for the [embarrassing 24-point headlines][1] breaking up 12-point text, mainly single-sentence, "paragraphs." The report purports to be an interview with the new Planning Director hired by Mayor Filner (something that pleases lots of San Diegans, and the first step to undoing the destruction of the Planning Department by Jerry Sanders). The header includes "**Scandal**" and so does the next big-ass paragraph title, slyly (and stupidly) framed as a question. The next paragraph header, however, is the big winner for demagoguery, suggesting that Fulton is "stuck" in his job, when nothing that he says indicates that he feels that way. Halverstadt was known to write inaccurate hit pieces when at the Arizona Republic. Too bad she didn't stay there. And that's why we read the Reader and not the other crap that passes for news in San Diego. [1]: http://voiceofsandiego.org/2013/08/05/planning-ar…— August 6, 2013 6:03 p.m.
Sheriff reportedly plotting mayor's ouster got funds from Lynch, Blue, hotel interests, report says
Good data here. While Allred is in town, she can offer her service to the State AG Harris, who was called ""by far the best-looking attorney general" by Obama. This sent everyone into paroxysms and Obama had to apologize, though Michelle Obama laughed it off. I always assumed the comparative frame of his statement, which wasn't properly finished (best compared to what?) meant compared to the former AGs, all not so great-looking men. By the way MS, great, sexy photo! Best-looking commenter in Reader!— August 6, 2013 5:25 p.m.
Sidewalk vendors ousted from Tijuana’s historical district
Thanks, TBD, for this cogent, well-written, and informative report, and thanks Matt Potter for calling it to my attention via your Twitter account. I would have missed this report otherwise. MP uses Twitter in a way that is constructive, informing, and useful, rather than as the rat pack uses it - as a gossip column or something at the level of high school note passing. Filner imbroglio is all about greed
Well, I give up. You don't get it.— August 2, 2013 12:14 p.m.
Filner imbroglio is all about greed
will-i-is: It's not about honesty or lies. It's about exaggeration and opportunism. Surely you get that. In a recent New York Magazine there was a piece by Jon Chait about the creation of Obama as a cartoon monster by Republicans. You should read it and think about it. But note also that the theme of the rest of that entire issue is "sex" - endless stories of what someone's boss did in the office, what someone else did, on and on, with great hilarity and acceptance. Sex is the currency of our lives, every day, everywhere, on every talk show, magazine, drama, book, ad. Somehow, that has all been forgotten as the sexual-deviant accusations and piling on of Filner has excited those who hate him. Last night KPBS trotted out another "victim" who was horrified and traumatized Filner asked if she was single, or something truly benign, and then asked what her husband did for a living. And then walked away when she told him her husband was a cop. As if that's the proof of something. It's about exaggeration and opportunism. Surely you get that.— August 2, 2013 10:40 a.m.
Filner imbroglio is all about greed
Greed, yes. Primarily. The power greedy inner ring consists of monied interests and their primary mouthpiece, the entity assumed to be a real newspaper by the uninformed, incurious, blindly women's rights/gay rights-supporting sex-story-loving national media. But something else more sick and twisted exists: an outer orbital sphere of bloggers desperately seeking recognition/fame/justification/prowess/camaraderie in the drum circle??? These are people whose brains work in the way spell-check works: the spelling is correct, but the context is all wrong. This second ring of fools has hit a new low today: leader of the pack is the vile City Beat Kelly Davis, who is thrilled by the "awesomeness" and is promoting a stupid and crude Youtube piece of shit using Hitler as an analogy for Filner. Joining in the fun with the hilariousness of it all, among others, is Gustafson, Showley, and KPBS' Hailey Persinger, who gives a "hat tip" to RDot for pointing it out (he now earns a new name: DRot). Hey, investigative 10th-grade bloggers: you want to burn a local Jew by tying him to Hitler? Well, then, go after Goldsmith, who proudly did an interview (page 21, "Heroes Aren't Welcome") in this piece of racist junk: http://www.instaurationonline.com/pdf-files/Insta…— August 2, 2013 9:19 a.m.
No known witnesses yet in Jackson lawsuit, says Filner's lawyer
Don, RDot can hold forever. I'm sure he is holding tight, and multitasking. He, yes he of the Morality patrol, could be a witness for Filner, being quite the expert in sex drive, even writing a column called Sex Drive Daily. It's true. He's admitted to being obsessed with sexual stories, even though he also admits to being a "prude with intent to censor and censure even as I link to content." He's researched every kind of sex, including the benign: how lack of sleep causes men to hit on women more readily. He could defend Filner by suggesting Filner needed a nap when he asked the ladies if they were single and told them they were beautiful. There are 8 million stories in the Naked City, and they're not all about Bob.— August 2, 2013 8:17 a.m.
No known witnesses yet in Jackson lawsuit, says Filner's lawyer
One would think, in the era of iPhone pics, that someone would have Youtubed a big smoochcy example of Looking-for-Love-Bob's affection for the old gals. I'm shocked that the Boyz of San Diego/KPBS (and their Ch 10/Fox/Breitbart-dumpster-diving/UT/Seibert afficionados), with their nonprofit-paid-for blogger-journo cool tools, haven't come up with any visuals. One of them even got cheek-smacked twice *a la* James Gandolfini (oh my god!) and didn't get it on video. Come on, BoSD, the titillation level will fade if we don't have pictures.— July 31, 2013 6:22 p.m.
Filner did all the right things the wrong way
