Also, Chula Vista City Councilmember Patricia Aguilar will hold a town meeting about this issue on Monday, May 4 from 6-8 p.m. at The Hub meeting space at the Otay Ranch branch library, which is in the food court at the Otay Town Center shopping mall.

A few more additions: At the beginning of the meeting Planning Commissioner Mark Liuang recused himself and sat in the audience. He later made public comments as a private citizen. He was against the project. Apparently, Planning Commissioner Yolanda Calvo wouldn't be able to vote because she had a conflict of interest, apparently because the developers happen to contract out with Calvo's place of employment. Planning Commissioners serve as volunteers. There are seven commissioners in all, but only 4 voted. Before Commissioner Liuang sat in the audience, he also stated, “Our current process is only to allow mailed out notifications to those who are within 500 feet of the intended parcel that may change.”

O squeaky clean leader, where art thou?

I ended up downloading large portions of the lawsuit. It's a shame that "anyone can sue anyone for anything" and the complaint can be public record, but the deposition under oath is marked confidential. What I can glean is that the complaint -- whose contents mostly can't be printed because they are rather pornographic -- also become what might appear to be somewhat delusional at some point? The plaintiff claimed that Superintendent Velasquez-while at district offices and in the capacity of a Superintendent--needed to finish dressing into his uniform as the Police Chief of the District. He asked the plaintiff to pin the badge on his uniform. The defense requested discovered documents, tangible things and verification (that is, requests for emails, photographs or any documents that might prove the allegations). On May 12, 2011, the plaintiff responded to most of the twenty-four requests with objections “on the grounds that this request is overly broad, unduly burdensome and therefore irrelevant.” On May 25, 2011 a ruling granted Velasquez’s request to see the full medical records. That same ruling granted Velasquez’s request for sanctions in the amount of $525.00 and $1,137.50 because the plaintiff failed to respond to defense attorney requests for supplemental and discovered documents. The case never went to trial. Instead, the plaintiff asked to dismiss in November 2011 with prejudice (meaning, he cannot bring the lawsuit to court again) and the plaintiff recovered zero dollars.

neighborhoods/national-city -- National City

Off the I-5 in National City, I never knew but the SAn Diego Electric Railway Association has a museum with a large train set up for kids. There are also old train cars. Who would have thought? Everything you always wanted to know about trains at 922 West 23rd Street.

Frank Kimball Museum

I just found THE most amazing gem in National City. The Frank Kimball House. It's serene and open from 11-1pm on the weekends. The ladies who have created a historical society wear traditional dress from the 1800's and host tea parties where you can learn to make hats. Brick Row from 1887 is a sight to see too.

Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center

The neat thing about the BMX track at the Olympic Center is that there are actually three. The imitation Beijing track, the imitation London track and Tyler's new one.
