Will lower fines encourage fare skipping on buses and trolley?
Public transportation is subsidized by the tax payer. Many of the poor purchase discount tickets or passes. The vast majority of the taxpayers get no benefit from public transportation. Most buses and trolleys are empty most of the time. If they really wanted more people to ride and get cars off the road then the mass/public transportation should be no fare. They then could lay off all the people who account and deal with the fares. Most of the money comes from the taxpayer anyway. Also trim the management to the bare minimum and limit pay and benefits for the executives.— June 24, 2020 7:30 a.m.
High dollar execs remain on board as KPBS layoffs go viral
I fail to see what the top executives do to earn the big bucks. I understand top executives in for profit companies sharing in the profits but a non-profit should be just that. I would not donate to KPBS while their fat cat executives collect high pay while they lay off the people who actually do the work.— June 24, 2020 7:24 a.m.
Cost of overtime haunts UCSD campus cops
If the UCSD system was concerned with money they would take a hard look at the high cost of administrators and the number of professors that teach little having seniors or post grads actually teaching their classes. If you have a lot of overtime it is because you do not have sufficient staff to do the job.— June 23, 2020 7:07 a.m.
An assault near The Jungle in San Marcos
I think you need to go see your mental health professional. There is nothing in the article about NTC drivers or buses only that there was a bus stop across the street.— June 23, 2020 7:02 a.m.
Gonzalez leads legislative pack in cop union cash
Unions are the only voice that employees have. It is not the fault of the unions that that the "other" side has no concept on how to negotiate. An agreement between an employer and employees is called a Collective Bargaining Agreement. The operative word is collective. Both sides have input. Union representatives are elected by their membership and are expected to represent them in all aspects of employment. Don't blame the unions for representing their members fault the corrupt politicians and weak negotiators. Non-union workers are "at will" and can be fired for any reason or no reason at any time except for race, religion, etc. The only difference between an at will employee and a union employee is a contract. We all deal in contractual agreements be it a car load, mortgage, rent, credit card, etc. I have never understood why an employee would not want to have an employment contract. Many employment law firms, unions and government agencies are contacted by at will employees after they have been terminated wanting "justice". Like insurance no one needs a union until they do.— June 13, 2020 10:40 a.m.
Faulconer's politics of carotid restraint
One can only hope that Faulconer and his ilk will fade away.— June 4, 2020 8:07 a.m.
Five black-owned restaurants to try in San Diego
Ian Anderson: I hate to break this to you but the Surf and Soul Spot is located in SAN DIEGO not La Mesa. Look it up and you will find that the address is 7229 El Cajon Blvd. San Deigo, CA 92115. The La Mesa city limits began at 73rd st.— June 4, 2020 8:05 a.m.
Forty years in business, D.Z. Akin's adapts to the changing times
One thing that has not improved over the years is quality. Over the last few years the service and the quality of food has declined. Often it is warm or cool not hot. The breakfast special (pancakes, egg, bacon) the pancakes are tough like they were made in bulk and kept warm until needed. The Bakery prices have increased substantially. Trying to get a coffee refill takes an act of congress. Not the place it once was. Hopefully it will change for the better because I love the place.— June 4, 2020 7:57 a.m.
Phil Rath – San Diego's busiest lobbyist
Chris Cate is just another money grubbing slimy politician. Follow the money and you will find who owns and operates politician.— June 4, 2020 7:49 a.m.
Phil Rath – San Diego's busiest lobbyist
Phil Rath and his ilk is what is wrong with our political system. Money talks and the rest of us walk. Politicians do the bidding of those who finance their campaigns. Money buys access and influence. If you don't think so try to get in to see your representative. You will be at the back of the line and slime like Rath will be at the front.— June 4, 2020 7:48 a.m.
